We have a new (to us) dining suite

Until yesterday, we were eating off a white plastic table as we sold the dining table from the other house. The one we sold seated eight people and was much too big for our down-sized new house. We hadn’t found a table that we liked until we saw one advertised on Gumtree, a buy and sell local website. It looked ideal and was close by so we went to see it. We thought it was really very nice so bought it and four chairs. It is solid jarrah, a ‘red’ wood that is native to Western Australia and is in very good condition. We are really pleased with it and, being secondhand, it was much cheaper than a brand new suite. We also spent two hours at Ikea today, and tomorrow a heap of flat packs will be delivered and soon after that, we’ll be busy assembling a big bookcase unit, two desks, desk chairs, a couple of small cupboards and a new wardrobe. I’ll have plenty to write about for a while. In the meantime, here is a photo of the table and some of the chairs. Edit: I forgot to say the table can be extended to seat six comfortably. There is only four chairs but we have other chairs Vin and I could use if we have six for a meal.

Can I be morbid here for a moment? We picked out a casket for Dad yesterday. I, being my usual weird self, told one of my brothers that it really makes no sense to pay thousands of dollars for a beautifully varnished wooden one or an intricately worked metal one when it is only going to be in public view for a few hours and Dad really could care less how 'nice' one looked and that 'comfortable' was a relative thing. With having said that, I liked one that had just a touch more red to the wood than your table has.

@myklj999 I agree, caskets do not need to be that expensive when the one who will be inside is not there to appreciate it.

@myklj999 Thanks for the tip about the vault. How are you doing? I think about you a lot. It's a tough time.

@myklj999 For adults buried in our province it is law that you have a vault. It is not for children, Sadly I know that first-handed.

I love this dining suite and it looks like brand new, you were lucky. Assembling Ikea furniture is a bit a nightmare, but we always arrived and I am sure you will arrive too.

We are really pleased with our suite as we hadn't seen anything new that we really liked. I know the Ikea will be a bit of a challenge but I'm sure we'll get there. It should all be delivered tomorrow sometime.

@JudyEv The Ikea bookcases were not very difficult, the wooden chairs were a challenge.

@LadyDuck We have bought two office chairs. I know the challenge will be the wardrobes as last time we broke two mirrors trying to install the mirror doors but this time we will have a better idea of what we're trying to do.

The ends pull out and you can insert another section in the middle which gives you two on each side and one person each end. It would be a bit cosy but acceptable.

I'm not sure what you mean. It seats four but I forgot to add that another piece can be added to the centre so it will seat six comfortably. I'll edit it now.

Reversed was the case in our life. We shifted from city life to a rsemi ural setting where as you know my dream house was constructed and this house is four times that of what we had in the city. Our dining table in the city could accommodate just 4 and so when guests arrived it was a buffet. Here we have a bigger one that can accommodate 6 What you see in the photo is that table that we brought down and was kept outside(Solitaire) and the one we now have that is inside

@JudyEv Thank you. I had this dream to create my own space for which we had to shift to a place where property is sold cheap and from then onI started my journey I do not have to depend on outsiders for my entertainment. My house, my garden,my pets and my online activity keeps me merrily on my toes. and fingers
