Sometimes just a small change helps

I'm not a person who loves huge, heavy drapes. I live out away from others so if someone wants to peep into my house that someone would have to work at it.
For the next ten days Mr. Sun is going to make my world hot as a desert. There are two pretty good sized windows in my bedroom. I have some twin sized bed sheets left from the daybed that we moved to the West side house. Hubby and I found some pushpins and pinned that sheet over the window that is nearest our bed. Now Mr. Sun can't send His hot glare directly into the room.
The minute the sheet was up and the room darker, Fred cat came back to lie on the bed. He has asthma. It's harder to breathe when you're hot.

I put up blackout curtains in the living room and both bedrooms. We have snoopy neighbors.
When it started getting hotter out, I added a reflective film to the window in my bedroom that faces west. The sun was raising the temp in my room by 5 degrees from a little after noon until the sun went down.

@DaddyEvil I generally love sunshine but triple digit heat is making it too oven like. I'm sorry you live that near snoopy neighbors.

@sallypup At the other house we never drew the curtains closed in the living room or kitchen... In this house, we have to or we have people looking at us all the time. (At the other house we never locked the doors, either. Here, we were told it would be better to keep them locked. *shrug*)

@DaddyEvil Yikes on your neighborhood. My Mom used to talk about a house that she used to live in. She said the houses were so close that she could see down into the neighbor's bathroom.

I guess whatever you need to do to make your place more comfortable for you and the pets you will need to do. Sorry about your heat..but selfishly I hope it stays there..

@rebelann Fred has been on meds for a year now. He is starting to have little coughing spells. I hope that stops. Hubby went down to the car to get something that we forgot. He came back talking about how crazy hot it is out there. I need to go feed and check on the birds soon. The sun glare bugs my eyes terribly. You're right. I'm mostly found in the house right now.

And we both have asthma. The hotter and more humid the weather gets, the harder it is to breathe!

@Hannihar Fred does taste the pill bits. I have trouble with him. I have a pill cutter. I cut the pill into teeny bits then do my best to bury those bits in smelly canned cat food. Just like with humans, one of the side effects to the pill is being hungry. So Fred is greedy to eat. I just keep going until he has eaten his smelly pill 'sandwich.'

He does not smell it or not want to eat the food because he smells the medication? That is great that he eats it. My cat certainly would smell or sniff it out and not eat it. I wish I could explain things to her so she could understand that I want to do things for her so she can be with me a long time but she does not understand or does not like certain things.

I keep the sun out on the east and west. North is wide open. Not really any near neighbors but cars occasionally coming by. South is small windows. I cover the north windows in the winter for warmth.

I hope that works out for you, then. I know heat is a problem for me, too.

I use blankets in the middle of winter also when the temp is dropping extremely low.

We had a handyman come in and hang our drapes in the living room (finally). They are light/heat blocking; so it's nice and more comfortable in the living room now. We still have the AC and ceiling fans; but the AC won't have to run so much.

My house is made of wood most of them so it is not very hot if the temperature is high. And I close the doors and since I live upstairs so I don't worry bout my neighbors who likes to snoop me.

I love waking up to the sunshine coming through my bedroom window but I have blinds & curtains in all my windows. I wouldn't want my neighbors to peek
Good idea putting up the sheet to keep it cooler in your room. I'm sure Fred enjoyed it too

@Marilynda1225 Fred must stay in the house until this heat wave is over. I can tell that he is having more breathing issues.
