One of my granddaughters was taken to the ICU yesterday evening. She began talking incoherently, acting weird and texting strange things. My oldest daughter and son-in-law drove her to the ER.
They found she was in diabetic ketoacidosis.
For two years she has been losing a lot of weight. She went from about 240 to 110. She slept a lot, was always thirsty, hungry and potty often. I was after her to get a work up and was worried she was anorexic. Come to find out, she is diabetic.
It's hard on me not being there. They have been living here while daddy is working the oilfields of Texas. He flew out and they drove back there for awhile.
She is improving and might be taken from the ICU tomorrow, to the step-down unit.
She turns 20 July 6th.

People do not realize the implications of diabetes. I am going to guess that she is type 1. It is hard to manage sometimes.

At least you now all know what the problem is and it can be treated accordingly. I'm sorry she was so ill.

I am truly sorry. Hopefully they can stabilize her and get her the meds she needs to help her.
