I need a break from cooking

Seriously. Everything I am cooking is turning out to be BAD. So today it was Biryani. Shahi. Had everything out there in right proportions. (Househelp arrived so she helped with all that) Then the miserable thing happened. The curds did not sour...grrr. Tomatoes turned out to be sweet. I tasted the water... salt seemed to be less and so also the pungent part ..thanks to sweet tomatoes and curds that I did not taste upfront. So in went more salt, and more Garam masala (pungent ingredients) What do you get...black biryani that is a tad bitter. While cooking I forgot to add cauliflower pieces... which I had placed on the other table as there were so many things all around...grrrrrrr Stupid Vanny ...did not taste it...after first whistle. She happily supplied it to neighbors...because she has never failed at this dish before. Now...I wonder what they are thinking.

Seems like you need to take cooking lessons again. You must have got a lot on your mind lately. What's happened? You should relax more.

I am trying to cook all I can and all I could before ending up in old age home where I cannot eat as per my whims and will. But tragedies don't seem to stop.

@Jlyn10 Hugs. They seem to have already. Dad said it was not so bad...just that rice was al dente...and it could have been cooked some more.

@vandana7 Aaww, you poor thing. Why do you need to think so far ahead? You are still so young. Sorry about all the tragedies that you have to face. Hope they will all go away and leave you in peace.

Too much masala makes it dark and bitter. It happens to miss something. When I am tired I would renounce to make dinner.

I have not tried biryani but I heard it is delicious. Sometimes I don’t like what I cook, too. Don’t cry. Next time you will make it right again.

Well, I hope your neighbors enjoyed it. If I make something that turns out bad, I just throw it away - I am sure the trash would accept it . But was it really that bad??

It took a while to get report card. The neighbor would obviously say everything is nice or fine...that is what I was expecting and that is what I got. My parent had disliked it in the morning but in the evening he said it is good just that in the morning it was still al dente, because of which he did not like it. Hmmm ..I for one felt it was a tad bitter. Just a tad.

@vandana7 A tad bitter does not sound so bad. Interestingly, as I get older, I am actually liking "bitter". Could I try some of your biryani ? Parents will be frank - or at least I will tell you my father has always been brutally honest - if there was anything wrong with his food, he would let us know for sure .

It happens when you are thinking something and are not focusing on what you are cooking. My wife many of times forgets to add salt in the dishes and when I ask she has no answer for it.

I was too focused...I was concentrating too deeply. I only forgot to taste curds upfront. Tomatoes too. Otherwise I would not have prepared it today.

Are these the same neighbors you didn't care for? They're probably thinking, vanny is evil! Let's not bother her again! I'm glad your househelp is back now. Why didn't you let her do the cooking?

@DaddyEvil If you were here, I would make you eat it, and keep on saying isn't it tasty...isn't it great...so that as a good friend you would not have a heart to deny that. The results would be out the next day. LOL

@vandana7 I'm sorry the cooking turned out bad but that's no reason to cry about it. When that happens here, Pretty and I make jokes about feeding it to people we don't like and then throw it away. Nope! You were being compassionate... Someone else needed her and you let her go help them. Again, nope! My job is being your friend... A friend tries to lift another friend's spirits by teasing, making jokes and only in a last resort, offering a shoulder to cry on. I'm a bit too far to offer a shoulder so am trying the other ways first.

It happens @vandana7. Even the experts sometimes spoil the broth. If you are over burdened then better relax. Enjoy whatever you prepared rather than cribbing. You seem to be professional in cooking.
