Age is a privilege denied to many - Mark Twain

I was searching to see if I’d written about a particular subject and came across another post of mine that I can’t even remember writing. However, in it I quoted a saying by Mark Twain ‘Do not regret growing old. It is a privilege denied to many.’ Now ain’t that the truth?
So I need to remember that we’re very lucky to be this old and to be where we are. Later this morning, we are hitching up the caravan and heading on a four-hour trip to Merredin, north-east of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. The weather should be a bit warmer out there and the forecast is mostly fine. We are camping on a farming property and won’t have power and probably limited access to internet. Thursday and Friday, we’ll help with getting ready for the horse endurance ride which will be run on Saturday. Hopefully we’ll get some good photos of the horses and riders.
The photo is from the 2019 ride at Merredin.

I totally agree. I don't really understand why some people say asking a woman about her age is a rude thing to do. I don't mind telling anyone my age even when I get 50 or older. Maybe that's just me. But I believe we should age gracefully, not worry about getting old.

@JudyEv I hope not. I just watched a movie recently and a woman was asked her age and her reply was, "You don't ask woman such questions!"

@cahaya1983 Maybe it depends on the culture too.

Age is just a number and yes many did not get to enjoy it.

@JudyEv I'm actually getting quite concerned about how I'm going to fill my days when I retire. No doubt my wife will draw up a list of things she wants done about the house. Perhaps I'll not tell her I've retired and just leave the house as normal each day.

I would consider myself lucky if I could be half as active as you are when I get to the same age as you are now! You and Vince are the epitome of the active older adult. Keep it up!

@JudyEv You'll still be going strong at 80 Judy. You have a lot of good years left in you.

Being old can in fact be a blessing if one is healthy and fit again. My father is an inspiration.
He maintains a routine. He is 80 plus and apart from BP problem which he manages well, he keeps a good health.
Plus he doesn't takes things too much to his heart unlike many others and I think that too helps.
We feel like lazy guys in front of him!!

Your father sounds a great role model. My Mum was tough too and just kept on going, doing what she could for as long as she was able.

I don't like hot weather at all now. I've become very fussy about temperatures now I'm older. It needs to be just right - not too hot and not too cold!!
