Ida has moved onshore up to the point of the eye of the storm. Conditions are deteriorating at a fast pace. At Grand Isle, LA, there is already 6 ft. of water over Hwy. LA 1.
The wind guage at Grand Isle is not functioning anymore. The wind possibly harmed it in some way. The wind is estimated to be 95 mph with gusts much higher.
There will be major flooding in the whole southern portion of Louisisana. This storm will be moving at a very slow pace and will be over the majority of the state for the rest of the day and through the night.
We will be seeing rain here in my area of MS this afternoon and through tomorrow and probably part of Tuesday, as well.
Power outages has already started. There are over 100,000 homes without power already. I am assuming this is in the New Orleans area and other coastal areas.
So far today, I have only heard from one out of three of my daughters and that was my oldest who lives in Lafayette, LA. They still had sunshine and no rain at that time a few hours ago.

My father went through a hurricane back in the 1940s while living in Florida. He said the storm seems to die down, then the other 1/2 strikes with vengeance. Also, your two daughter's phone service might be out.

This hurricane is going to be brutal.
Thanks for the update. I had not read the news.

We are trying. Having wind gusts up to 60-70 mph and rain now. Louisiana is having flooding, homes losing roofs, trees down everywhere and further south a hospital lost roof in Thibodaux.
Where have you been? I was getting worried not seeing you on the site for at least a week.

@DaddyEvil I'm so sorry for your loss!
We are okay and escaped any damage to house and from what I hear the house in LA also. I have about a month's worth of yardwork to do here picking up limbs though!

@kareng I was editing a manuscript... I am supposed to be editing another one now but another one of my brothers passed away today. I didn't feel like working for a day or maybe two.
Come visit us if you feel the need to run. I live in Southeast Missouri.

That's not a good news at all. I pray that this storm doesn't intensify.

@aninditasen None noted. We do have some big tree limbs down with lots of smaller limbs and twigs. That in itself is going to take a few weeks to get cleaned up.

Yes, it was bad and the worst I have been through since Camille in the 60's. Thank you so much for your prayers. We are all good and no major damages.
I'll be outdoors a lot picking up after this one. It will take a couple of weeks to get it all up. I don't think many leaves are left on the trees and for sure the pecans are gone!

it is awful, they talked about grand island on the national news last night. that they have no way to get to the people trapped there.

@DocAndersen Yep and right on the coast. Also, mandatory evacuation means nothing to some of them which is obvious with those that stayed behind. Grand Isle is very scary since once the storm gets near, there is no way out. The road is closed. It used to be a bridge that opened up for boats to go through but they built a new archway bridge that all the boats and ships can go under. Cars could easily get blown off during or even before hurricane hits.

@kareng i saw that on the news, that mentality we can ride it out, scares me.
