A humpy in the bush

At the horse endurance ride at Jarrahdale, Western Australia, I walked down a gravel track to find a vantage point from which to take photos of the horses and riders. Just off the track, I spotted the humpy that you can see in the top left corner of the collage. A ‘humpy’ is small, ramshackle hut used as a dwelling.
This one looked like a garden shed. There was quite a high fence around it and the vegetation was quite overgrown so I wasn’t able to get too close to it. There seemed to be a mirror inside but I couldn’t see any more than that. It wasn’t occupied.
The lower right shows two of the wildflowers that are now starting to appear throughout out bush areas. The yellow one is one of the wattle varieties, of which there are many. It seems to be a good year for wattles.

That means something completely different to high school boys in America.
That is so peaceful….horseback riding in the woods.

I learned a new word today....humpy! That humpy look like it's been forgotten a long time ago.
Nice pictures of the riders coming through

I'm only guessing but I'd say permanently. It's not the sort of place you'd create for a weekend. Probably an old guy, homeless, maybe with mental problems - hard to say really. It's walking distance of the town itself which is very small.

@Ronrybs Someone must have set him up there surely as it's a proper little garden shed. Usually they're made out of bits of corrugated iron and scraps of this and that. At first I thought it was a pump shed but there wasn't any machinery or pipes around. I'm still very intrigued - might have to go back with some wire cutters! (Just joking)

@BelleStarr @moffittjc According to Wikipedia the word comes from a Queensland aboriginal language. Their humpies (called wurleys in other parts) were very temporary - just branches and tree limbs but now the term covers any ramshackle building made of bits and pieces. As humpies go, the one in the photo is top-end classy.
