I saw a video how to plant onion using an empty bottle. It intrigued me so I bought mineral water and onions. Actually I planted 1 to try an error and feeling wonderful for after 5 days the onion roots gradually came out. I am going to plant more. Please see the photo image. I feel so excited and somehow this kind of endeavor helps me forget problems in this trying time. The kids at home also want to plant their own that's why we may be having onion plantation Try to plant yours. Next days, I may see many onion leaves and surely cut them and be eaten raw, LOL. Thanks for reading and feeling me my dear friends. Photo image is my onion located in between the plants. Feeling excited.

@brokenbee, I haven't tried or seen in YT how to plant garlic or if garlic could be planted like this. It seems not for it might rot unlike the onion. By the way, have you tried to plant garlic like this in bottle?

@cacay1 I had seen several videos that they propagate garlic like that but if you intend to get more garlic bulbs, you need to plant them in soil after they have lots of roots. If you want the leaves. you can leave them that way... But I think we don't usually use the leaves of garlic here in the Philippines unlike in other countries.

@jobelbojel, yes, I do pant at least 10, but I notice, there are insects that like to eat the onion leaves, so I covered it with a used mosquito net. I will not spray for the chemical may stick to the onion leaves. My sister tried to burn dry leaves to observe, she was right those small insects disappeared.

@LadyDuck, my sister tried to plant in soil, but they do not grow. We live near the sea and soil is salty. We cannot just plant what we like. Those that grown on soil grow very thin and sickly.

@cacay1 Okay thanks for the short tutorial, I guess I'll try it myself then and if successful another addition to make use some of my spare time. Again thanks.

@stanley777, if you have empty bottles, fill it with tap water and then place the onion on top of the same way I do. Make sure the opening is wide enough for the onion to settle, or you can enlarge the opening portion of the plastic bottle. I bought a mineral water in bottle for there's none at home that time. There are but very small. You can utilize the empty bottles of coke .

@DianeN, wow it was so exciting to know hehehe. I keep on watching the roots coming out beautifully. It is advisable to place them in a shaded place, but there are kids at home. They love to pull the onion and check the roots .That is why I tried to plant one first so the kids know my effort effortless.

@averygirl72 , try it, it is not hard. You won't anymore water it. Just put the onion on top of the bottle. Fill the empty bottle with enough water to reach the onion's part. I will try to check if the video is still there in my Save section in Facebook.

@JudyEv, hehehe yes true, but there are small insects that like to eat the onion leaves, so I gradually cut them. This onion in bottle will last only 15 days after its growth. Well, it's okay for everyday new leave come out after cutting those already tall.

The leaves are called chives, right? So that can be used for cooking. I'm wondering if you gather the leaves will it regrow or do you need to plant another.
