What a difference a few years make

Previously I’ve written about a young girl who rode 160 kms on her horse in an endurance ride. She first rode the distance two years ago and now she has done it again on the same horse. In the few years that she has been riding in endurance events, she has learnt a great deal as have her parents and her horse looks completely different now. It is much stronger and fitter. The horse’s name is Mac and he was previously a pacer before coming to Abbey Rose. He has completed two other rides of 160 km, allowing those riders to qualify for the prestigious Tom Quilty Gold Cup ride which was held last weekend. You can see from the photos taken several years apart how much the horse has improved in appearance.

Thank you for showing this photo. Mac is beautiful now, I was concerned looking at him in the previous photo.

I can understand your concern but his young rider is much better informed now about how to care for him.

The horse has grown up and the rider is growing up, as well.

In horsey terms, we'd say the horse has 'filled out' as he was already well and truly fully grown. He certainly looks different now.

@JudyEv Yes, filled out and his fur is sleeker now, too.

@judyev normally one horse is the same as all the other horses to me but even I can see the difference here.

Those with an 'eye for a horse' can pick a good horse even when it is in very bad condition. You'd hardly think this was the same one.

Both the horse as well as the rider have worked thru this together. It is very evident when you see the horse, he stands so much taller and stronger looking.
