I noticed my last post was March 9 and so much has happened since then, I am sure I can't remember everything. I am still quite busy with work and keeping the house going, but when I found out my friend @peavey died Wednesday morning, I was heartbroken. she also wasn't as active here, but we kept in touch on Facebook and I was subscribed to her blog. I wasn't home when I read her daughter's post, so I asked @GardenGerty to let everyone know and when I got home, I signed into here. I want to sign in more often, but like I said, I have been super busy, here are a few things I went through or have been doing since my last post. On March 25, my student attacked me. I was writing in his folder when he came across the room and punched the top of my head, causing a mild concussion. Fortunately, I only missed the next day of work, because the following week was spring break. I am still in that room, but now I share the responsibility of this student with another aid. (NOTE: this class is a special needs class, so it isn't like he has the ability to know right from wrong, he just acts out in frustration and almost a year later, I have connected with him enough to read his body language and know when he is angry) Then after school was over for the summer, I had a short break before 2 weeks of summer school. Then I got a fabulous job as a respite for a middle school student for the rest of the summer until 3 weeks out from the beginning od school, then I helped with 2 more weeks of summer school. So I am always doing something, and if I am not, I am resting. One new activity I am doing is looking for painted rocks and rehiding them. I actually painted a few, but I am not artistic, so I got my husband involved and that is how we get our exercise. I started doing this with the student I was taking care of this summer because her house was across the street from one of the parks. I continued it because it is the only way I can get my husband to get out and exercise since he had heart surgery in Jan. 2020. So, that is what I have been doing and why I am not here often. I miss many of you and hope that one day I won' have to work so much that I will have time to be here daily, like I used to. Have a good evening (It's 8 pm here) afternoon, or morning, talk to you later.

@LadyDuck Thank you, I think I got a sinus infection from a co-worker. It isn't too bad, but I am looking forward to getting some elderberry syrup again.

I've wondered several times what you've been up to. The attack by your student doesn't sound like fun at all... I hope, otherwise, that you're staying healthy.

Yes, I am trying to stay healthy, I have gotten sick a couple times (I know, shocker since I rarely get sick) I am sure this last time was because I didn't have the money for more elderberry syrup, but I will get more when I can.

@Carmelanirel2 I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well... Since I started the medication for hyperthyroidism in October 2020, I've hardly gotten sick at all. A little fever and sickness when I got the Covid vaccinations but that's pretty much it.

I wish I had more summer opportunities, but I do not. These students can hurt us even if they do not mean to. Sorry that happened to you.

@Carmelanirel2 I do not work directly with a hitter. I got bit this week. We have one little girl that when we see certain behaviors we know she will hurt herself.

@GardenGerty Out of 6 students, half of them are hitters and can include biting, kicking and pinching. But I love the staff (not sure if I mentioned it, but the staff in other classrooms were cold hearted, made the day miserable) we have each other's back. If someone needs a break , she will get it. When this happened, the teacher was on maternity leave and the other 2 aids were dealing with another student. I tihnk because of what happened, we all are on guard and take care of one another.

I have learned to watch his behavior and I warn others when I see him getting to that point. He has tried a couple times this year to hit me, but because I read his body language, I was able to defend myself.

Painting rocks and hiding them / finding them is fun. It was a big thing here two years back or more but I almost never find them now. I just got some new paint and hope to make some new rocks soon . @RubyHawk and I were just talking the past few days about the Kindness rocks on another post. Share a photo of some you paint if you will. I’d love to see some! That is absolutely horrible your student attacked you. Is he special needs. I know I’ve interacted with Peavy as I recognize the name but it must not have been recently or very active as I can’t picture her avatar or anything about her. Sad to have lost another member here. I will go look at her profile to jog my memory and see if I gave any notes about her online in my info about myLotters.

Hi @shaggin, it is good to see you. Yes, the student is special needs and non-verbal. I haven't painted any rocks, though the FB group is still very active in hiding them. My son wants to start painting, so once he does, I will share pictures.

True, but when I signed up, I was a stay at home mom and during the day I cleaned and on my breaks I would come here to chat. Now my children are grown and my husband retired and with his poor health, I am not only working outside the home, but I clean where my husband doesn't have the energy to clean. So it leaves me with little rest except on the Lord's day.

Maybe I need to get my husband into hiding rocks, or maybe there is another thing to do that I can get him out for. I am beginning to wonder about what I will do this summer.

@shaggin He is a voracious reader. Since posting this he has also started hand writing anecdotes from his life. He calls them his "stories" and they are pretty good. He is a good writer. It still does not get him up and active.

@allen0187 As a special needs student (I guess I should have clarified that part) he is non-verbal, but his punishment was he was put into a chair since I was unbale to care for him.

Nice to hear from you. I vaguely remember reading some of Peavy's posts but can't remember now much about her. Sorry for her loss though because I know how it is to lose a good friend on here. I've seen a few disappear. Hope you get some rest soon .

Hi @Letranknight2015, it's good to see you. This is a special needs room, so he isn't accountable. He is still my one on one, and he has tried a few times to hit me, (I am prepared now) but overall we get along pretty well.
