Poor Gracie

Our part Persian cat Gracie is such a sweetheart. Even if she does refuse to be petted. She's good natured and always wants to be near us when we're outside. She loves to bring us gifts that she caught like moles or snakes or birds. Three years ago on early Christmas morning, a woman fell asleep driving and ran through our garage. Poor Gracie was most likely very close to the car as it crashed and we couldn't find her. A few days later she came home, had probably been hiding in the woods out back. We were so thankful she wasn't injured. But I think she has PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm not kidding. Ever since the crash Gracie is terrified of noises. Even just small noises make her run. I winder if she'll ever get over being so nervous when she's startled. Poor baby. The picture of her is when she got under the house and was mad at us when we finally got her out!

@JimBo452020 It's not the most flattering photo of her, but she looks furious. It was her fault she got shut in, we didn't know she followed the pest inspector under there and didn't come out.

Poor Gracie, I think you re right and she suffers of PTSD. The cat I adopted was hit by a car when he was a kitten, he needed surgery and could not walk for several weeks. He is terrified by cars now.

You can see how angry she was to get taken from her special place under the house. I'm so sorry she's terrified of noises now after that car crashed into your garage.

@1creekgirl Poor Gracie must have been so frightened and traumatized by the whole thing. You could be very right that she has PTSD. Time will tell if she gets over it or not. All you can do is give her love and understanding. My cat comes to me when she wants her pets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gracie has PTSD from that crash. My small dog Mush is also terrified of loud noises or any noise that startles her. She shakes like crazy with loud noises and not just thunder. Gracie is a beautiful cat and wow she has a nice fur coat

It's highly likely she will never get over her fear of noises. Who could blame her. She reminds me of our little cat - same colour and lots of fluff.

I think we all had it for a while after the crash, lol! I was up cooking sausage on Christmas morning and all the family was still asleep. I heard a loud noise and when I looked out the kitchen window I saw a car sitting near the garage. I hollered out loud to wake my husband... I couldn't believe what I was seeing. She destroyed almost half of the garage. I'm thankful she didn't get hurt, but what a time!

She might never get over it, but she might. When we got our cat Chilly, he was afraid of running water. The shower sent him running, and he did not like going past our bathroom. Now, he only hides if we have a real bad thunderstorm.

Poor thing, PTSD is very common with animals. I had a dog who was abused in her previous home and the rest of her life she was terrified of men. Sometimes she would warm up to my dad, but if he were to get up she would start barking. She was a lovely dog though. Hopefully your cat will calm down with time, she is a gorgeous cat, so fluffy!
