Violence Visits My Town

The Boise Towne Square mall was a place where I enjoyed visiting from time to time. I haven't been there for several years but I recall going with my daughter and shopping for Christmas gifts. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful holiday decorations and getting my usual pretzel or my favorite candy from See's. I also enjoyed checking out the windows of the different stores. It was a warm and inviting place. Well, on Monday a young man walked into the mall and fired multiple live rounds. Joseph Acker, 26 who was a mall security officer was the first person slain, and Roberto Arguelles, 49 was shot near an elevator and died at the hospital. Three women were injured as the suspect fired rounds into the floor. One of the women seems to have been caught in the crossfire of police and the shooter outside the mall. Another male victim was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle and was ..... for his wounds. The police statement says that the shooter was carrying several different firearms but used only a handgun. His name was made public and he was 27-year old Jacob Bergquist and was a Boise resident. The police spokesman said they had had previous run-ins with Bergquist for "disruptive behavior" but never had reason to arrest him. They also said he was not an employee of the mall. They are not sure if Bergquist was killed by police officers called to the scene or from a self-inflicted gunshot. Image courtesy of Adobe Stock free images.
