A teapot surrounded by curtains

My husband, Vince, loves his photography and is in a number of Facebook photographic sites. Some of these have weekly ‘challenges’ which are low-key events with the ‘winner’ usually chosen by the winner from the previous weeks. Vince was having a bit of a grumble about a decision he didn’t really agree with and I told him it was hard being a peacock when you were surrounded by turkeys. What he heard was ‘It’s hard being a teapot when you’re surrounded by curtains’. No wonder he said he’d need to think about that statement. Photo of the back of our place. There will be 'after' photos soon.

Uhm... is it time to have his hearing aid checked?

@JudyEv Sometimes we hear what we want to hear or don't hear what we aren't interested in hearing...

Haha - possibly but from time to time he hears things a bit differently. Hearing aids aren't magic.

It's very funny, but maybe he should have his hearing checked?! I'm surrounded not by turkeys but by Turks! Among the foreign workers living in Germany the Turks are the biggest group. Two families live in a neighbouring house. I've been to several Turkish weddings which are bombastic events with up to 1000 guests.

Oh wow! 1000 guests? Do they provide a meal? It must cost a small fortune.

@JudyEv Yes, they provide a meal, but it's paid by the money the guests give the couple as a present. Many guests mean a lot of money. Even when the meal is paid for, there remains quite a lot for the couple. What I find an odd custom is that the amount of money a guest gives is announced by a speaker through a microphone for everybody to hear! My husband and I have never gone to the stage and handed over our envelope but have given it to the couple in private.

@MALUSE Oh gosh, that could be embarrassing. We went to one engagement party where every gift was held up and the donor acknowledged. We thought that was bad enough.

It's not a real expression but because Vince is a bit deaf that is what he thought I said.

I have a hard time understanding people if I have my back to them so that could be what it was. Perhaps he needs more advanced hearing aids

Hearing aids are good but they don't solve all problems. I think I had my back to him which never helps.

His hearing aid doesn't always interpret things properly. It makes for some funny conversations sometimes.

@JudyEv true and sometimes even without a hearing aid and a regular hearing, we hear different words from what has been said.

true, we need a supportive environment to show our best potential. If we survive in a black environment, over time we will also be colored black.
