Do you have to stand up twice to make a shadow?

MyLotter @LadyDuck and I have been discussing the weight of a bag of potting mix and this led to talk about how much we weigh. Anna is very light and it reminded me of how slight my husband was when we were first married. My grandmother was alive then and had a few funny sayings about Vince being so skinny. Here are the ones I remember: You must have to run around in the shower to get wet. You’d have to stand up twice to make a shadow. You want to watch the wind doesn’t blow you away. Do you know any other sayings about people who are very thin? The photo is of us at our first cabaret.

My husband is still like Vince in this photo (beautiful photo). My grandmother told me all the time, to put rocks in my pockets if the wind was blowing. A friend joked saying that if I would eat one olive people would have asked me if I was pregnant.

@JudyEv Poor Vince, he would not be happy to know what you are saying.

@LadyDuck Possibly not but he jokes about them himself - which isn't quite the same, I know.

Haha - those are good sayings. Vince has put on quite a bit of weight since that photo but his legs have always stayed the same.

Only one other one. My dad was skinny too and his dad would tell him not to stick his tongue out cuz he's look like a zipper from the side. It took me years to understand that one. I like You must have to run around in the shower to get wet it's too funny.

Grandpa came up with all kinds of silly things but I only remember a few because we were transferred to Germany when I was 6 and didn't get to see him for 3 years. Why is it we always remember those things our grandparents did when we were really little?

I thought a friend of mine was going to blow away once. We stepped outside and a gust of wind knocked her pretty good. Thankfully she fell against me. She was short and skinny. Lucky if she weighed a hundred pounds

@JudyEv She was. And she did eat. Just had a high metabolism. She has gained some weight since them but still thinner than most in our age range. Some jockeys do almost starve themselves to stay like that.

@wolfgirl569 And a great many have to give up riding after some years because of the effort of keeping the weight off.

I can't believe how thin some people are. Of course, jockeys are always light.

I use to get offended when others would kid me about being small. Now, I don't mind a bit!

Did you have thin siblings as well? All Vince's families were thin but they are well-rounded (but not obese) now.

Had a friend who was very slender - and he'd heard the 'run around the shower' joke. But, and this really happened, one day, when he stepped off the curb to cross the road, the driver of a passing car didn't even see him (because he 'disappeared when he stood sideways')and rolled over his feet! Fortunately, they were so flat and thin, he wasn't injured.

I don't know about "sayings", but I do remember Hubby's friend's mom always used to ask him in his younger days if it hurt to be that skinny .

That's pretty good. All of Vince's family were very slight as young people. They are much better covered now although the legs don't seem to have put on any fat.

Vince looks like he’s a member of a 60’s pop group. The Seekers comes to mind with the fabulous Judith Durham. I like those sayings and I’ve never heard the shadow one before. Another I’ve heard is “I’ll get you a job in the candle factory, running through the candle with the wick” Now you would have to be thin to do that, unless it was a massive candle.
