So much for an air fryer...

I bought an air fryer for my husband to give me for Christmas and I finally got around to trying it. I made french fries exactly like the recipe said. Actually I googled several recipes. They turned out okay. Not great, but okay. Even though I only used two teaspoons of oil verses more oil in a frying pan, there wasn't much difference. I know less oil is healthier, but I drain my fried foods well. My son enjoys using his air fryer. And I know many myLoters do, also. But the biggest drawback to me is the time it takes. With the time to soak the cut up potatoes and then "air fry" them for 25 minutes, I could have fried two more batches in my frying pan. So, the air fryer is on its way back to Amazon as we speak. Amazon is great about returns..I only had to put it in a box and drop it off at a UPS store this morning. And I have that counter space again for other things. I guess not every appliance is meant for every person. If you have one, what's your opinion?

@rakski Same as you, the French fries in an air fryer do not taste right.

I despise those no good air fryers Vicki. I know what you mean..they are a complete hassle and french fries taste like garbage in them. I would take deep fried any day of the week. Home made old fashioned. It is not just you. I hate those things those air fryers..got rid of several of them.

@RebeccasFarm You said the word I had in mind for French fries in the air fryer "garbage".

You are so funny, Tiara. We demonstrated air fryers when I was doing product demo's a few years ago. I didn't like them at the time and I guess I still don't!

I don't have one, but I am not attracted to fried foods, so it was a no-brainer not to get one--

@1creekgirl we use olive oil for the most part--but nothing deep-fried--I try to stay away from all of that--but I make up for it by eating too much cheese--

We have one and it's sitting in the bottom of a cupboard. In fairness, we got it just before we moved so it hasn't had a decent trial yet.

There are lots of people who really do enjoy them. I guess I'm just not one of them, lol. I might like a smallish toaster convection oven, but I need that counter space for other things.

@CarolDM An air fryer is really a small convection oven. I would probably like a toaster convection oven that's a little bigger than the air fryer.

I had to laugh because my air fryer followed the same sort. I bought, I tried, I sent it back. Honestly, I found that the food made "traditionally" is a lot better.

@1creekgirl If you have a good convection oven you do not need an air fryer. Convection ovens use similar technology and you get better tasting foods than a countertop air fryer.

The advantage of needing less oil doesn't outweigh needing so much time to cook. Plus unless you have a really huge airfrier that takes up even more counter space, you have to make more than one batch.

@1creekgirl I think I shall keeping making them in the oven. I just brush on some oil and add pepper and a little paprika. Takes about the same amount of time as the airfryer

@1creekgirl I never used one but yours sounds like a dud and bad experience. I just fry mine too in oil. I never used an air fryer so cannot comment. That is nice that the ones that like the ones they have. I will continue to use the frying pan myself. You were very right to return it. Like you said, you have more counter space now.

Maybe it depends on the air fryer? It’s nice that you can return stuff to amazon. Do you get a new one or are you getting your money back?

We use ours and like it. I don't cook raw meat in it though I could. I still prefer to bake. I haven't made any homemade fries, just frozen and we like how they come out. Everyone isn't going to like the same things. You gave it a try and it wasn't for you. Glad you could return it.

We purchased air fryer last year and found it very useful and quick to prepare food. I also found it good as there is less oil on the food.
