Wasted $95

Back in 2019 I bought a ticket to Elton John's farewell concert. With all the fees it came out to $95. I was really excited to attend the concert but then the pandemic hit and the show was postponed to 2022. From what I remember we had the option to get a refund at that time. I chose not to do it though because I really wanted to attend the concert. The concert is coming up March 1st but I cannot attend because of the vaccine mandate. As far as I can see there is no refund option for this ticket. Someone even posted on FB that Ticketmaster refuses to refund money. Not only will I not get to attend the concert but I wasted $95 for nothing.

I would contact the AG in your state. The terms were changed by mandating a vaccination in order for you to attend. You didn't agree to that. I just now read where this has been an issue for thousands of people. Cancelled shows were offered an option for refunds but rescheduled shows were not. However, since the terms were changed, you are entitled to a full refund. Ticketmaster is trying to prevent people from getting a refund or even getting a response from the company when contacted. A call to your AG is in order. I can't see another way to get an answer short of litigation. The office of the AG will provide advice and steps you can take to recover your funds. What a nightmare. If you itemize your Fed and State income tax, the 95 bucks would be a legitimate deduction. Small consolation, I know.

@lovebuglena You should. Screenshot your email too, it may be something you can attach if you contact the Attorney General of your state. You can contact them by email too.

@lovebuglena I would email them. And keep your copy of the email. Document document document, as one of my bosses once said.

I was gonna try to email Ticketmaster today but changed my mind after reading a comment on fb from someone that Ticketmaster refuses to refund money. Maybe I should’ve emailed them anyway.

I wouldn't give up. There are still other options open to you. As far as Ticketmaster goes, I would contact them anyway.

I hate when that happens, and you don't know if they'll enforce the mandate or not until you get there. So, it's really bad. You tried at least.

Yes. In 2020 they offered us a chance to get a refund but I didn’t request it as I wanted to attend the concert. Now I wish I had gotten a refund then.

Maybe I should still try to contact them. This mandate won’t vanish any time soon. I got the tickets before the pandemic even existed. And if I wanted to get tickets now I wouldn’t knowing about the existence of the mandate. Me not going to concert is not by choice. That should warrant a refund.

I would take the advice of @Vikingswest1 and contact the AG. This is not legal. Many artists are cancelling shows if the vaccine mandate is at a venue.

Interesting. I’ve not heard about artists cancelling shows if there is a vaccine mandate.

Ahhh, wouldn't it be simpler just to get the shot?

Nope. I won’t get it just so I can go to the concert.

So if you get the vaccine, you could still attend. But perhaps you are not taking the vaccine due to a doctor's advice?

I do not want to get vaccinated—my own choice—especially just so I can attend a concert.

That's assamed, maybe you could post it on the facebook market or somewhere and get at least some of your money back.

I don't want to deal with trying to resell my ticket. Also, I have a paper ticket but they will only be allowing mobile entry, so not sure how that would work if I try to resell it.

@lovebuglena So basiclly to me, they don't care how is has effected people because they postponed the concert if their refusing a refund. So what is it with the vaccine mandate, they won't let people in that doesn't have it or what?

@sweetashoney you need to show proof of vaccination. You have to be fully vaccinated. If it’s a two-dose vaccine you must have gotten two shots and have proof of both. They won’t let you in otherwise.

I think you should contact them, as they changed the rules to attend, you disagree so you should be able to get your money back. Can you find someone who would buy your ticket?

Don’t know anyone to try and sell a ticket too. While I bought my tickets through Ticketmaster it’s the venue that requires people to be vaccinated to attend. Still, me not being able to attend is because of this mandate and of my own choosing so I should be able to get my money back.

I'm sure you can sell it, perhaps at a profit, on StubHub or Craigslist or something. Give it a try.

I kinda wish I had opted for the refund back then and if anything tried to get tickets later on when concerts were back. However, I had no idea if there would be tickets available so decided to stick with the one I got. And here I am. Can’t go to the concert. Can’t get my money back. Or so it seems.

I am sorry to learn that you will not be able to attend a concert of your favorite artist due to the policies of Ticketmaster not giving refund under any circumstances beyond your control.

They are requiring people to be vaccinated. That’s wrong. If anything they should require a negative covid test.
