Mail Delivery On Sunday

United States
February 6, 2022 5:19pm CST
This may apply to those in more rural areas than in cities where mail is delivered to your house by a carrier on foot. My mail is delivered to a box at the street. I got mail today. It's Sunday here and mail isn't supposed to be delivered today. Monday through Saturday. It's been this way for as long as I can remember. Had I not heard the mail truck, the mail would have sat in the box until Monday afternoon. No need to check for mail on a day there was no delivery, right? I'm a little upset because the mail contained correspondence with Social Security, a bank statement, a power bill and offers for a car warranty extension. My SS number, name, address, bank account number and phone number were included in the mail. Mail theft has been an ongoing problem here and I think that delivering mail on an unscheduled day is a bad policy. I will contact the Post Office tomorrow to lodge a complaint. Does this ever happen where YOU live? Would you be upset or would you just brush it off?

It's the same here. We have post from Monday to Saturday and Sunday they're supposed to have a day off. But it has been known for a parcel man to bring me a package on a Sunday!

I have got packages on a Sunday before too but never mail in the box. Packages are walked up to my front steps on Sundays if there are any.

@sharonelton It just seems odd and unsafe to deliver mail on a Sunday.

I was wondering why they made their mailmen work on a Sunday.

It's relatively normal to have packages delivered on a Sunday but never envelopes. I hope to get an answer tomorrow.

I would be a bit upset. I wonder if they are so behind in your area that they added a day to get it all out. I wonder.

@celticeagle I just talked to the PO and the Sunday delivery was a fluke and should not have happened. They apologized and said it wouldn't happen again.

It could be, I just need to know if I should be checking on Sundays. If they made an extra delivery day to catch up, hooray for them.

That's amazing that so much important mail arrived on a Sunday. Our mail goes to a locked box in the clubhouse but is only delivered Monday to Friday. I would be contacting the postal authorities too, especially if there has been mail theft in the past.

The local Post Office just recently sent out a mailing offering collectable stamps, services offered and packaging supplies plus tips for safety. In the safety tips, they warned to collect mail daily due to mail theft in the area. I'll am curious to see what kind of a response I'll get.

I would be very curious to find out why would a mail be delivered on a Sunday with no explanation whatsoever.

I hope to find out tomorrow. If it's possible to expect mail to be delivered on Sundays, I'll know I need to check. It's just so odd.

@ihasaquestion Just normal mail. Nothing unusual. I just don't get it.

@Vikingswest1 Maybe it's a special delivery.

We dont get mail on a Sunday. Mail theft is never a problem here Postpersons have to make sure it gets delivered through the letterbox into the property.

Like most rural areas here, mailboxes are at the street all along the right hand side of the road. The box is actually in front of the neighbors house across the street.

@JimBo452020 I did when I lived in the city but now live in a rural area where the mail carriers drive routes and deliver to the boxes without exiting their vehicle. It would be impossible to have enough carriers to deliver on foot. Too much distance between houses in the country here.

Good luck with any complaint you may make. I've had to make several with no results. The USPS has become most unreliable at least here in my area. It also is a thieves and scammers dream come true. And here in this area, Sunday delivery by the USPS usually is reserved for packages, at least in these parts. I had never received mail or letters on a Sunday.

@Vikingswest1 Yes of course, you do not want important communications sitting in the box wide open for thieves. Quite frankly I do not even trust the deliverer of the mail ... Our mailbox is built into the wall here..mail slot, so it is supposed to come directly inside when he inserts it into the box but guess what they do? Leave it hanging half out..and not only is then mail the accessible to thieves, but because the mail slot is open..they are letting the cold directly into my place, as if it is not cold enough without any heat. They make me sick...they do this literally on purpose.

I just want to find out if I need to be checking my box on Sunday too. I think I have already decided to put in a locking mailbox. That way, mail theft isn't even a concern and if I leave mail overnight, it's safe.

@RebeccasFarm This is one of two places I've lived where there WASN'T a mail slot by the front door. They left mail sticking out of the slot back then too. Scoundrels.

Mail is not delivered on Sundays, it is from Monday to Saturday before noon. In the afternoon we can receive packages, but we receive a text message first.

That's how mail delivery has always been here, M-Sa but it could be anytime. Sometimes mornings, sometimes afternoons. That's why it's so odd to get mail today.

@wolfgirl569 It's been warm here with nothing but a little rain. The storms across the country may have delayed mail from getting to the local PO, but it couldn't affect delivery of the mail by local carriers. It's just strange.

Yes, a pleasant surprise it was for me. In 2020, I ordered online from outer island, a rumcake. It was delivered that Sunday! So happily I ate my Christmas, indulgence.

If you live in larger cities, there are mail slots in or near the front door of your house. In rural areas or small towns, the boxes are at the street.
