I just lost the first of this so will try again.
After I was rid of the second husband for a while, my 2 teens, 13 yrs and 14 yrs. were hanging out with teens that lived 3 doors down from us. My moms family had known their family all their lives in the small town we all lived, in fact.
Jack, the 48 yrs. old dad would come fix things for us at times. and he flirted with me even though I was 20 yrs younger.
Gary, my soon to be ex, had been calling and calling me to let him come get me and the kids to bring us to Cleveland with him cause he had a job and an apartment and was swearing he would never hurt me again. I was weakening because it seemed I had no one except Jack and that I didn't want to do.
But one morning the gas was turned off and I was broke and it was cold January.and could get no more extra emergency assistance, so when Gary called I said yes. He would be there come the weekend.
Meantime, Jack had gotten a settlement from a job injury. He bought a van and was leaving his kids with their mother, his ex, and going to California where he had never been and wanted to be.
He begged me to go with him. I said I didn't love him and I had to think of my kids. He said I would learn to love him cause he would treat my kids like they were his and be so good to me I would see. So, I (we) went with him to keep from ending up back with # 2.
Besides, my mom lived in California and I hoped to mend things in our relationship. Jack never hit me or physically hurt me but I found out that sometimes he would have what the doctor called an episode of Childhood abuse syndrome.
He would be very jealous and mentally abuse me. He said if we was married and had a kid together that would stop and it did for long periods of time. When our son was six yrs. I found out that Jack was cheating on me
with even younger girls !
Because of the kids, I let even that go for a few more years. Then I met who became number 4.
But still I didn't leave till my mom told me I had to because she had been cheating with him too.
Sorry this is so long. But some was very curious and I even forgot who asked me to tag them when I did this one.

@Vikingswest1 That is correct. I was trying to remember the name of the other actor he resembles - Gene Wilder.
Robert De Niro did refer to Hoffman's face as " everyman's face though.

I've been looking forward to reading the next chapteer of your story. I don't blame you for leaving this one ether! He sure was a cheater wasn't he, I think my mouth dropped open when I read what your mother told you. I would think you flipped when she told you that! wow

I did. It was the first and only time I ever yelled at my mother. I guess she had just gone crazy herself because she had always called him "crazy Jack" as did her whole family. Her siblings thought it was terrible too.
I took my son and went to my daughters house to stay. Mom was widowed by then and Jack continued to live with her. You can bet he never cheated on her ! She would have thrown his butt out literally
or shot him. and kept his checks too.

that's just sad.
My first husband will no longer have anything to do with one of our sons because that ugly azz second wife lied and said our son made a pass at her.
Our son loves his wife too much to do that and she is a lot prettier and nicer. So I think it's jealousy causes that.

@bunnybon7 Sometimes you do have to watch them family members. My brother was married to a woman (so he thought he was, came to find out she never divorced her husband before she married my brother) She came to my house one day and was talking all kinds of junk about my nephew about how stupid, lazy and on and on she went. Later my brother found out she was cheating on him with my nephew. So even after all these years, when my brother goes to see my sister, he still has nothing ot do with my nephew . My nephew lives at my sisters in a camper with my brothers ex.

She actually never seemed to like me much. I'm not sure what the problem was. So many factors there, long story, and it didn't help that I loved her so much and always strived for her approval.

@much2say That was probably part of the problem plus she realized too late that she hated my dad. She married him for money. He was 39 yrs and she was 15 yrs. Grandpa had to sign for him to marry her. Over the yrs. I guess I reminded her of dad.

My heart hurts to know that a parent you loved so much would be like that towards you. By chance was she a young mother?

I hope husband # 4 will be the last and best for you. That's horrible, how could your own mother have done that to you? Not that Jack is better, but you are her own flesh and blood, did she even think it through before the act? Anyway best wishes for your future relationship/marriage.

Oh my gosh that makes my heart hurt so bad knowing that you put up with the cheating for the kids sake and then how horrible that must have felt to know your own mother would sleep with your husband. What a horrible person he was to do that to you.

He was mentally ill and so was she so I guess they didn't think it was wrong. I will never know why she was that way with me. She was good to my kids.

thank you. I couldn't hardly believe it at first. I was so shocked. You know a couple yrs. after that when I saw them again, he told me he was sorry said he had always loved mom way back when they were teens but she would never have anything to do with him then. Said he was out of her league back then.
I thought yeah, how strange that before when we first moved back to Cali. she had said to me on the side, how can you stomach old crazy Jack? Seriously mom?

Some men are like that, they are born cheaters and they will always cheat.
I agree with @Vikingswest1 he looked like Gene Wilder.
