I posted earlier today about a diner in Quebec that has taken the word "poutine" off their menu in solidarity with Ukraine, because that is how Putin is spelt/pronounced in French. I don't know why my post disappeared.

Putin has Italian ancestors (not the first bad apple in Italy), from Veneto, Putin means "little boy" in their dialect.

Probably because Putin is now an unacceptable word.

How do we order "poutine" now?

@BarBaraPrz My husband heard someone order poutine in Cuba. The servers knew what it was. My husband ordered fries with cheese but they forgot the cheese. Next time he ordered poutine and all he got was gravy on his fries... and not very good gravy at that. So many Americans do not know what poutine is, how do the Cubans know? Perhaps because 90% of their clientele are Canadian.

Well, if you're at that diner, you just say fries, cheese and gravy.

Funny as I asked my sister in Quebec if she was still going to eat poutine!

@marlina Poutine can be yummy when not over-salted.

You could always pm GAA and ask why the earlier discussion was removed.

I have a response disappeared, not sure why. As for poutine, I can see why they removed it although I wouldn't do that just because of what's happening in the world. It has nothing to do with a person.

They didn't remove it, just not calling it poutine.

That is thoughtful of them to take that off their menu. Was the other post shorter then this? That may be why it was deleted.

It's all so darn silly but it seems that every time the media slams a country we here in the US and Canada start pulling anything dealing with those countries off the shelf. It's not the fault of the people there it's the government that's to blame.

The diner still serves poutine but they're just calling it fries, cheese and gravy.

All these things are ways of showing that the common people don't like what's going on.
