Supply Chain Is Just Screwed

In all of my 48 years on the planet I have just never seen anything like it. The supply chain is just screwed. I mean, we joked at one time about what socialism would look like in America. We're not quite to U.S.S.R. days...
But it might be getting close.
Shelves are bare. Literally. I mean, I have never seen empty shelves like I have seen recently. And it's not even important stuff necessarily you can't get.
Red Lobster reported a shortage of mozzarella sticks. Mozzarella sticks! I have not been able to get tater tots for 3 weeks. It has been 3 months since I have been able to get a large can of wet cat food. Meat is scarce almost every time I go to the store, and it doesn't matter what store I go to.
Aldi has not had lunch meat for two months.
I can still buy salisbury steak, but no one has chicken parmigiana. Today Aldi was completely out of heads of lettuce.
It used to be I would stock up because I wanted to maintain an inventory since I shop at multiple stores. Nowadays you stock up because you don't know if you will be able to get something next week.
Even bottled water. Nothing but empty pallets with maybe a package or two left.
Gas is $4.19 a gallon. A dozen eggs just got to $2. A loaf of bread is through the roof. My meat is 50% higher than it was two years ago.
If I can even get any of this stuff.
I'll tell you what. Somebody, ANYONE, send me a nasty tweet. I could use one of those now. Because even if I had to digest the nasty tweet, I could digest some food that was actually available while doing it.

I see the same things. It's troubling.
The disruptions at the height of Covid could be easily explained. But the disruptions continued long past lockdowns and it wasn't just the basics out of stock, there are empty spaces everywhere.
Our supply chain needs some grease.
I never really considered myself a Prepper but I guess that's what I have become. I could make it a couple of months if I had to.

Pretty keeps buying way more than we need. We have totes full of canned goods out in our garage and totes of boxed foods in the kitchen. I keep telling her we don't need to go shopping but she insists until I take her. But we don't have bare shelves at Walmart right now, either. There are one or two things I like that I can't get but I just buy something else instead.

@sharon6345 The little freezer on top of the fridge is all we have, too. And I keep it full of leftovers that just need microwaving to have a meal.
I hate to go shopping when we don't need anything.

@sharon6345 When we moved three years ago we let the food almost run out until after we finished moving. Then we restocked at the new house. It was less we had to move.

@CarolDM They would have to be. I mean, I am not even WANTING things to be this bad. I actually never thought it would BE this bad. Hell, at this point give me freaking Obama back. He was horrible but next to Biden I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

This is disturbing, how will people survive if this will go through for months. Yesterday, while talking with a colleague I suggested to start a community garden, growing vegies in the urban isn't impossible just so we've got food in case disruptions like that will happen.

Some idiot decided to shatter the supply chain when they thought lockdown was a good idea. We're not able to recover. Hell, two weeks ago, my husband was on the hunt for wet cat food for my cat, Chilly. He went to Walgreens, and they literally had one package left. We bought it because we didn't know when or where we'd find some. Fast forward a week, and some of the stores here seem to have some, but it's sad.
They aren't selling Caffine free caned coke, and the excuse my husband was given... an alumiuim shortage. Are you fing kidding me?
Peope need to fix our problems, not someone elses.
I feel sorry for Ukrian, sure... but why doesn't the U.S. work on it's own problems, first?

To be fair, and it is only me being fair—or at least trying to maintain a level of it. The lockdowns did begin under Trump, although it was not entirely his idea, and the strictest of lockdowns were of course in democrat run cities and states.
That not withstanding. I still think it was a bad idea and for a variety of reasons. It certainly set the wheels in motion for a shift in employee sentiment and direction, and provided for at least the beginnings of massive disruptions in the supply chain.
All of which were, of course, made worse by a lack of understanding of the seriousness of the issue by Biden, and a lack of prompt action to solve the issue when it became much worse. On top of that, while things were beginning to open back up a bit and there was a sudden SURGE in jobs, Biden still saw fit to "address joblessness" by shelling out trillions of dollars in continued unnecessary aid that only made it more possible for people to stay home and not participate in the supply chain.
The problem is so deep now it will only be harder to dig our way out of it, and I am not convinced Biden has a clue about how best to deal with it.
As for Ukraine, it is a terrible situation. The U.S. has an obligation to do what we can, and I do think SOME of the measures Biden has taken are in the right direction, although I do not feel his actions are strong enough, and I also do not believe Putin has any concern over Biden being a strong contender in the argument against the invasion.
In other words, Putin isn't taking Biden seriously. And that's a problem for us and the Ukrainians.
In fact, American businesses have taken more effective and stronger action against Russia than Biden has, and I can only imagine they (the democrats and the administration) know it. When American BUSINESS is leading the pack, what does that say about us as a country? What does it say about our leadership?
These are serious times we are in.

@RebeccasFarm If someone would have told me it would be THIS bad, I honestly would have laughed at them. Right now things are so bad I might take both Carter and Obama back. That would be a much better ticket right now than Biden Harris.

Oh but according to the clown in the White House, everything is fine. The economy is stable and more people are working now than ever.
Seeing the same sort of thing here. Bread was actually right at $4 a loaf last week when I went to local grocery. I left it there. My husband asked why I didn't get bread. I told him it was $3.89 a loaf..now I'm thinking it was $4.89 but either way, crazy. He said oh, I don't blame you for putting it back. We can make some if we need to.
Hey, it's not a tweet but should rile you!

I keep thinking it's the end of the planet, the Bible says " man will destroy themselves" and even if you don't believe in the Bible, the words are coming true. 1 person likes this

@bunnybon7 Polls are certainly becoming quite interesting since even the largely weighted democrat ones are showing that very few democrats support Biden right now, and even less support Harris. So, all this means is that 2024 will become even more interesting since I suspect Biden will have a challenger on his own side.

It is and it isn't. Socialism is bad ultimately for any country, even one as tiny as Norway is. But Norway is also not a country that operates in the way that true socialist countries do. I would not call Norway a socialist country by any standard.

Wow! I’ve not really seen empty shelves like that here. Why is this happening? Can’t be because of covid anymore?

I see in the picture the bare shelves. That is too bad that what you need is not there. I know for my cat I may have to go to two stores if they are out of what I need to buy for her. It is hard when you need things and cannot find them anywhere.

Everyone everywhere is complaining about a lack of drivers. The same old story. Why aren't people taking these jobs? Help Wanted signs everywhere; and I mean EVERYWHERE! If I were looking for a job right now, it would be a prime time!!! No way am I going to work for anyone again though! :-)

For some it is obviously an area of contention, but part of the problem started with the lockdowns, and then with too many subsidies offered to help 'ease the pain' during them. I am still scratching my head why, when we were suddenly +1 million jobs that could not be filled, Biden insisted on shelling out trillions more in aid to help the jobless.
That action largely made the supply chain issue, which was already experiencing problems, much worse, and now we are here.
The message should have been to the American people, "We're not out of the woods yet with Covid, folks. But as Americans we have to pull ourselves up from the boot straps and show the resolve we have always had as Americans to plow through any perilous time with fortitude and tenacity. We have jobs. Let's get back to work America!"
Imagine the impact a statement like that might have had instead of the usual gloom and doom and "we're all miserable together" stuff we tend to get from the left.

Your country has a very bad to worst president. He and his hyena-vp have kept their promise of a very dark winter.
Can you make it to three more years?

Very true about stocking up on goods, and now I stock up on stuff when it's on sale because with rising prices you have no idea if that item will ever be on sale again, or what price you'll be paying next week.
And can long gas lines and odd and even days when it's your turn to buy gas be far behind. And the travesty is we have all the oil we need! If this stupid administration would just OPEN THE PIPELINES AND LET THEM DRILL AGAIN

@thedevilinme If you are suggesting that the Biden administration is turning the first world into the third world, then I agree with you and then it does have something to do with the post. But you would have to expand and clarify a bit.
