Speaking in Questions

One of our fellow MyLotters wrote a post about words that drive her crazy and are way overused. So and literally.
While I mentioned in her post that the word that drives me insane is when the kids constantly say "like," it got me to thinking about something else a lot of younger people do that just absolutely drives me insane.
They talk in questions.
You know how it sounds, because I am sure you have all heard it before. It's that sudden rise in intonation at the end of every sentence that makes it sound they are asking a question, when in fact they are making a statement.
Do you know what I am talking about? Does this drive you crazy as well?

I haven't encountered that. I bet it does drive you crazy, though. (Have you seen the people on myLot who keep putting question marks after whatever they're talking about lately? That bugs me. If they aren't sure about what they're saying, why write it in the first place?)

So they may say what they had for dinner and it will sound like a question?

@porwest It would be even worse if they would do that when talking about their bowel movements.
Does it piss you off when someone uses the F bomb all the time in their conversation?

@lovebuglena lol. Yes, that would add an interesting dynamic to the conversation.
As for the F bomb, we are a bunch of guys so it becomes frequent even in our company. lol

I know of exactly what you are referring to.
And it also drives me nuts.
Such nonsensical talk. I tell you.

"Like" drives me insane as does "You know what I mean?" I've never noticed people that talk in questions.

@LindaOHio We have a customer that calls in and says that at the end of almost every sentence. It grates on the entire office.

Like, she came over to, like visit, then we like went to the movies, like so cool. We like went to eat at that new restaurant, like you know, like on the corner? Do you like, know her?
This is not word for word, but I heard it yesterday waiting in Walgreen's for meds. I had to walk away as I had an overdose of like, like you know. I didn't like.

@porwest - Red flags go off in my mind when people start a sentence with "honestly." It is as if they are sure I am going to assume that what they are about to say is a lie. I immediately begin to think that it is a partial lie, at the very least.
I noticed the same thing when I was a Realtor and a few clients would, inexplicably, start talking about what good Christians they were. I learned they almost always were going to try to get me to reduce my fees, or cheat either me or the other party in the transaction. I have found that real Christians and people of other faiths rarely feel the need to bring it up during a business deal. They live their faith by dealing morally and fairly with all the other parties involved.

The question one drives me crazy as well. I wonder how come they speak like that. It's really annoying.
