Crunchy Fish Filets 03/11/22

Don't you dare judge me. Any of you fellow MyLotters. Oh, big talker. That Porwest. And here he is with a box of crunchy fish filets. A BOX! "Next thing you know he will do a price comparison on how much this fish actually cost, and yet, he has a BOX of it in his house, on a cooking pan, and ready to bake!" What a shyster. Okay, okay. Look, I'm human. And so sometimes I keep something quick on hand. And yes, it's Friday night. I could have just ordered something in like Chinese or pizza or something. But I intended to cook something. The wife said, "What about crunchy fish filets?" And of course I said sure. I get these at Aldi for $3.49 per box. There are 10-12 filets in the box. The box says there is 19 ounces of fish in there. So, doing the typical Porwest mathematical breakdown of cost per pound, I am paying $2.94 for a pound of fish. I'd say that's still pretty economical for fish, even though I will fully admit I have no idea how much fish is actually in this fish. lol To be totally honest I have no idea if it is EVEN fish at all. lol So, anyway, we will have some macaroni and cheese and salad with this. That's our dinner tonight. What's going on your table?

I wouldn't judge you because you have a box of crunchy fish fillets in your freezer. I'm judging you because you're eating them! Fish are nasty! I made some more beef, yellow onions and cabbage with spices. Delicious!

@1creekgirl No, I don't like fish. I'm allergic to seafood and never cared for the taste of freshwater fish.

DE, do you not like any kind of fish at all? We fried some white perch yesterday with baked sweet potatoes and fried corn bread. It was divine. I made gluten free brownies that were yummy, too.

@porwest We have found that since Covid our favorites around here are going downhill. I don't know if it is new cooks or what. All 3 of them are under same ownership as before Covid.

@kareng It is probably partly that. The cooks, and the inability to hire anyone these days. That and supply chain problems meaning you might not be able to use the same brand or quality ingredients.

I ordered Chinese last Friday and all my leftovers are gone. But Chinese is always on my radar. I just love the stuff.

I hope this fish is not partially engineered lol. Went to an Italian restaurant tonight. Friday we had soup hubby's mom gave us. It's supposed to be kharcho. I wouldn't actually call it that lol.

@porwest I think it's a Georgian soup. Really flavorful. Made with lamb ribs.

I shop at Aldi but I don’t buy fish since I’m vegetarian. They have good bargains. I had vegetable soup. Carrots. Onions, squash, corn and bell peppers. I cooked it in my crockpot.

@porwest Neither do I fault anyone for eating meat. It’s everyone’s choice. Most of my family eats meat.

@RubyHawk Most people eat meat. We're omnivores. lol. But at least you are not one of "those" vegetarians. You know the ones I am talking about.

Gosh, I could never be a vegetarian. But I don't fault anyone for it. I can't argue against vegetable soup either, although mine always has beef in it.

That is good price. I buy these sometimes, since there is no fresh fish around. Soup here last night.

Pizza sounds really good, and that will soon be on my list again. I am due for a 12-topping Apondanza from Pizza World REALLY soon. Yummy, if not a bit expensive.

Yeah, we go back and forth. Sometimes the sticks, sometimes the filets. The filets make nice sandwiches too.

Aw, give yourself a break. Don't tell anyone, but I never make my own bbq sauce (which was really good) since I discovered Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. Enjoy your fish.

It has actually been ages since I have made my own bbq sauce as well honestly. Even though I mostly ever made a cheater sauce. Basically just a mix of ketchup, tequila, a touch of honey and Worcestershire sauce.

Fish is expensive. That's a very good price. I'm not a big fish eater; but that's what we had yesterday from Meals on Wheels - Breaded fish, brown rice, mixed veggies, cauliflower and Mandarin oranges.

Wait until inflation shrinkage hits that box of fish fillets. If we don't solve the economy problem with a change in policy a can of sardines will be a better bargain than that fish.
