My collection of bass players

MyLotter LindaOH (@LindaOHio) mentioned that she had an owl collection which brought to mind the two owls that I have. Both are playing string basses.
Many of my friends here would know we have a son in Ireland who is a double bass player. He went to Ireland in 1998 and has only been home for a few weeks at a time since. We have visited him a few times too but not since COVID-19 disrupted everyone’s lives.
When he left, I started collecting these little bass player figurines. I didn’t actually stop collecting them but haven’t seen any for a long time so there is only the six. I’ve stopped collecting anything now.
Do you collect anything special?

I collect old crocks. Red Wing mostly but I have other brands.
I have been collecting them for 40 years or more. My mom had quite a few and I picked them up wherever I could find them. Some are over a hundred years old.
I have a pretty substantial collection. I still use the mixing bowls and some of the small covered crocks.

Clay. Glazed and fired. They were really popular in the 1920's.

@Vikingswest1 That's really interesting. Are 'old crocks' basically just old china ware? Thanks for the photos too.

@JudyEv I didn't know what mint roll meant.
I thought... are those candy?
I'm guessing they are rolls of coins that are really for collectors and were not circulated?
I only set aside circulating coins, either when new ones come out, or when they put out commemorative coins.

I have decks of playing cards from around the US and a few decks from India and one deck from Japan. I've also got small amounts of paper and coin money from different countries.
Your little figurines are cute.

@JudyEv I've got some decks that are supposed to be worth money now. When Pretty was little, I'd buy a couple of packs every time we went shopping. I've got six shoeboxes full of decks in my closet.

@DaddyEvil That would be a lot of decks indeed. What sorts of ones are valuable?

I forgot to say he is a jazz player. He now has a music-related admin job. It was impossible for him to get a loan for a house until he had a 9 to 5 type job. And he said playing at weddings that turned into swim-throughs was turning him off.

Cute collection. I am trying to stop collecting anything other than trivia as it does not need dusted and can be stored in my head.

That's not a bad idea. I've stopped collecting now but I should have stopped years ago.

Back in the day, I collected soccer jerseys and all sorts of jackets and hoodies.
Would love to start collecting toy figures back my budget won't allow it for the meantime.

@allen0187 That's what I'm doing. I did get rid of quite a few before we moved.

Those little animal figurines are lovely. My husband collected Japanese Fuchi & Kashira, those are the decorated parts of Japanese swords, some of them are beautiful. I should take some photos and show them.

What a cute collection. I don't collect anything anymore. I have boxes of figurines waiting for a curio cabinet that never came; and we are trying to downsize.

@JudyEv Yes, I know that. So even if I am very fond of such cute toys, I don't buy them as I have to clean them everyday.

Bear is a leftie. Cat might be too.
I collect coins if I can, but mostly just local ones. I'm lazy.

Thanks heavens for Skype, etc.

(That's a joke. I know you're not talking about coins/notes/etc.)
