Has The World Gone Mad?

I am depressed. I am not usually depressed but over the past few days l have been experiencing bouts of depression. It all started after l read an awful account by a mylot member about what is happening in his country. He laments the fact that the world is focused on Ukraine and the atrocities taking place in his country are being ignored. Then l read a lengthy AP report of the horrible things that took place in a Ukrainian town which was recently occupied. I had to stop reading - mainly because my eyes were blurred by tears. What is happening to our world? Has the world gone mad? Can we bring back some semblance of sanity?

It's not the world but its leaders that lead it to madness. They should have made every effort to establish peace among humankind.

I totally agree with you. In my country you can tell it by the way the leaders manipulate things and some fanatics couldn't realize.

Globally things are depressing and terrible right now. I try to focus on my family and my little world right here. We have enough to keep my mind busy, but not depressed. I do that because I cannot change the fact of the war in the Ukraine nor many other large global happenings. But I do pray for peace.

It's the same things that have always happened around the world. We're just more "plugged into" what's going on now because we know people from the places the terrible things are happening... Pretty and I send money and hope things will get better but know they probably won't. Stop paying so much attention to the horrible things. It's the only way to keep your sanity.

@SonjaRae There's little we can do to change things. Pretty and I donate what money we can spare to help the people who need it and hope it's enough to do some good.

I know, the internet and social media has made us more aware of what is happening globally. But you are right - war is not new, neither is world strife, natural disasters etc. It is just hard to accept.

It's really depressing that there are all sort of terrible things happening around the world right now. There are times when I'm wide awake at night, wondering what would happen or how I could survive if a war or natural disaster broke out. I feel extremely grateful that I get to live well and peacefully at this part of the world Although I'm financially struggling, I'm grateful that our family is doing fine and the country is in peace.

@Kandae11 Yes, and I'm truly grateful for it. Even if things go south on some days, I try to not spend too much time worrying about them because that'll affect how I feel about my life. I always try to be positive and look at the good side of everything although it's not easy.

I was saying this to another mylotter no more than 30 minutes ago. All are focused on Ukraine and the African people are ignored. It is sad, humans always committed atrocities and they do not seem to want to stop.

The world has always been mad, only now we have widespread media coverage and plenty of world leaders and wannabes to tell us where to focus our attention. Don't let them ruin your day. Focus your attention on those you CAN help.

Tragically, every now and then the world brings forth horrible events. And we have to make decisions on who to help when and how.we have to invent systems that are fair to avoid conflict and to decide when we should intervene. Not going to be an easy job

Wars and atrocities have been around since the beginning of time. Ukraine is the latest in a continuing history of violence and aggression. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone could live peacefully? But it seems there are always some with evil intent somewhere on this planet. Sorry, to say there is no magic potion which will provide a cure.
