Exiting A Group Or Site

United States
April 18, 2022 5:08pm CST
Most of us have left a group on a site or even left the site itself. There could be many different reasons why a person chooses to leave a site or group but it all comes down to not wanting to take part anymore. Are you the type that just leaves or do you make a big deal and announce that you're leaving? If I am exiting a group or site, I just leave the group or delete the profile on that site. I don't treat them like an airport and announce my departure and cry about how terrible the group or site is. Some people like to read many opinions and some prefer an echo chamber where everyone believes the same way. If you delete your profile or quit a group, do you make one last comment announcing your departure or do you just quit posting?

I just leave without saying anything. No one cares when someone is leaving. I just stop posting and go. My usual reasons are too much drama or the content isn't what I expected and not for me.

That's it. No one really cares if you leave. If the drama or content is too much for me, I just exit quietly.

@noni1959 I left several political debate groups at FB. Walking away is the best way.

@Vikingswest1 I was in a host camping site and even seniors were arguing over silly things. I decided to quietly go.

I remember a couple of times you posted that you were leaving. I posted once that I was leaving MyLot back in 2008 or so. I got a hundred responses lol.

@JimBo452020 I can remember when even stupid discussions would draw hundreds of comments. I kind of miss those times when traffic here was like that.

I just leave, most of the time without bothering to delete anything. Why bother?

You don't have to delete anything. If you delete the profile, it's all gone in most cases. It's best to just walk away and never look back lol.

@Vikingswest1 If you look me up on Persona Papers, you'll see I was looking for a new place to call "home" online for myself and friends. When I realized that site wouldn't work, I said it wasn't what I was looking for and left. I found myLot about that same time.

@DaddyEvil Back in the early days of FB, I announced I was leaving a group and bashed the group and members in one final post. I was still getting notifications from that thread months later. They roasted me. It's best to just walk away.

It depends on whether or not I want people to know the reason I am leaving. I feel no obligation, though.

I tried to let people know one time when I left a FB group that had devolved into flame wars. They roasted me. I will just leave now.

@porwest A normal roasting can be fun lol. Some people take it too far and cross lines.

I leave silently . I don't think I've ever deleted my profiles. I have quit groups/sites, though not often . . . I just kinda tapered off to wean myself off of these sites and then completely left - quietly. Honestly, I don't think anyone cared that I would leave, so there was no need to announce anything.

@Vikingswest1 I will say there are some friends here that disappeared and we didn't see it coming. I wish they had said "something" so we weren't left hanging til this very day. Maybe I would tell a few select friends in a private message. But otherwise, nah, an announcement post wouldn't be necessary.

Yep. Just stop posting. No need to announce that you might or want to leave. That's just it. People don't really care if you leave in most cases.

I've heard this before but it seems like there's ONE Facebook group for it. All I did once was to say "I'm leaving", but that was a comment, not a separate post.

@Vikingswest1 I watched that happening recently. That post gave them material for some more memes. They weren't that rude, but definitely making fun of that person... who raised a good point, but one of the group rules was to "not tell the admins how to run the group".

@sabtraversa This group had that rule too. No reporting to FB. People can be pretty nasty sometimes. They become nastier if you call them out. I may follow your lead and mention in a discussion comment that I was leaving but will never again post a discussion announcing my departure lol.

@wolfgirl569 I doubt that I'd even say goodbye if I left here, maybe though depending on the circumstances of my desire to leave.

@Vikingswest1 Here, if possible I would say goodbye. Maybe give a short reason for it. But some sites I have just dumped.

I'm not sure that I have ever "left" a site. When Bubblews was dying, I made sure that I could stay in touch with some of my friends there. We found MyLot, and some found other sites as well.

I have left several groups and left FB, Twitter and Gab. I left MyLot too but left the profile and just remained inactive. All other SM accounts have been deleted. It's nice you were able to stay in touch with friends after Bubblews failed.

I just don't visit the site much. When I had a job, I hardly come to the site. And if I do, I go straight up visit and read few true friends' posts. Write and visit those who have read and responded on my post for the evening. There'd be only 2 or 3, and not more than 5 guest-readers. So, it isn't hard to keep tract.

I find that if I want to leave a group or site, I just post less until I just don't visit anymore. After some time, I'll delete the profile or remove myself from the group.

There's no point in making a fuss when you leave. I've never left a group on purpose. Usually, I just run out of time to visit them as often as I'd like because life.

If it's a place that I spend a time on and posted alot I would post a departure post. But like a few days ago I decided to leave a facebook group that I never posted on because it wasn't for me. I didn't post a goodbye post because I never posted on it before.

I've been off this particular social media for years now, and I don't regret it. Back when I was an active member, I couldn't imagine that one day I would just quit, but one day it just happened naturally, so I didn't leave any announcements. There was no special reason; I simply no longer find the fun of it

If the fun is gone, it's best to just stop posting. I stopped posting at other sites for a year before I just deleted the profiles. I use only MyLot now.
