Summer is Here Early

Well, it’s finally here. The temperature is right on eighty today. As much as I like walking outside I went to the gym to workout. I couldn’t stand the heat. I had to walk to the gym so I wore a long sleeved shirt, long pants and a cap to shade my face from the sun. I slathered my face and hands in sunblock. I don’t want anymore skin cancers springing up. I saw a few people passing on the trail which is behind the gym. You can see everyone passing, houses and scenery through the large windows in the gym. One couple passed by that I always wonder about. I’ve passed them on the trail for about a year. They always have large packs on their backs. I’m used to seeing people carrying small backpacks but not so large. I’m wondering if they might be homeless and killing time walking during the day. I don’t know of any homeless shelter in this area. They always walk fast and act like they’re in a hurry. It worries me to think they might be sleeping out here in the woods without shelter.

People hike or walk with rucksack or backpack as a form of sport, it is pretty popular.

@RubyHawk Walking with a weighted backpack is a way to build strength and endurance while burning more calories, it is called "rucking".There is also a myLotter who does this kind of exercise.

@LadyDuck I seriously doubt that’s what these people are doing but I don’t know. They aren’t harming anyone that I can see.

Lots of people here carry a backpack but not large ones that weight them down. When people are out hiking they carry a bedroll too. That’s out in the mountains and fields not here among apartments and sub divisions.

We've reached 80F once so far this year. On warm days it might reach the 70s at this time of year. Yesterday we had 76F. Today our high was 55F. Tomorrow it might reach 60F. It isn't summer here yet.

@DaddyEvil It was probably in the high sixties today Not too hot or too cold. My blanket felt good last night. It’ll be hot every day by the time June gets here.

It isn’t really summer here ether. It was wishful thinking. I had to get out a blanket for my bed last night after putting my quilt away. I can kick it off on a warm night easier than a quilt.

It's getting warm here too . . . apparently upper 80s today (but then it's supposed to cool down again ). But for us summer means 90/100+. There are a lot of homeless folks here - and many of then don't even have backpacks .

@RubyHawk I must say there are more homeless folks here now - more than ever. Tents and RVs everywhere. There are many more shelters and temp homes now, but not all want to be there so they stay in the streets.

@RubyHawk Here, I think there are more homeless than the police can handle. I have never seen the police do anything about the many panhandlers here (a lot of them actually seem like scammers, which actually ruin it for those who are truly in need). Our old roller rink was sold and turned into a homeless shelter last year.

@much2say Thats too bad. I used to see a few homeless people at malls and on street corners asking for money until the police started picking them up and taking them further out. I don’t even know where a homeless shelter is.

I love summer as it's the prefect season to go swimming and cycling. But being under the sun too much is just dangerous especially these days when the ozone layer is severely damaged. Sun's uv rays is way more harmful than it was when I was a kid.

You’re right we should never go out without plenty of sunblock. And I wear sleeves all summer. I do not want any more skin cancers. I always dread seeing my dermatologist..

It does seem like we went from the last cool days of a southern winter into the first hot days of a southern summer with very little spring in between.

@RubyHawk I can see why you would not like to walk when it is hot out. Yes, we have experienced summer weather too and also cold days too. That is interesting to wonder about the couple. Maybe they live in a tent or where homeless people live outdoors. Are they close to people that maybe you could discreetly ask them about the couple and find out what is really going on.

I’d usually rather walk outside but I was sweating before i could get out the door and didn’t want to be out an hour in the sun. I don’t believe the couple knows anyone here. They are always alone and in a hurry. They might have a tent somewhere.

@RubyHawk I understand how you would rather walk outside but there are times we cannot. Maybe they are in a hurry to get back to their tent if they have one hoping no one took anything from them.

Right now we have sunny weather fluctuating between the 70s and 80s but in June the tropical weather will begin and then I also find it too hot,

That would be unusual here on busy streets, apartments subdivisions and shopping malls. I really hope there’s a reason and they aren’t homeless.

I am in Upstate New York. Temperatures were around 80 °F the other day. It is now 48°F, and there is a wintry mix (rain and snow) in the forecast tomorrow. If the couple is not homeless, maybe they are training for a hike.

The couple that you mentioned could easily by homeless. It's going to be in the 40s and 30s here; and then it will slowly warm up again.

We are still on the roller coaster ride. We had a couple of warmer days with the windows open and Saturday was quite warm and humid. Last night we had to turn the heat back on and today is cool and damp.

@porwest I haven’t turned on air conditioning yet and hope to hold off until the end of May. I’m lucky to live on the second floor with an apartment below and above me so I have the advantage of being sandwiched in.

@RubyHawk Here it is sort of like that too. Once the air goes on it stays on. I hate it actually. I prefer to have windows open, but in the middle of summer you just can't.
