I am learning to do 'messy man bun' lately. Some of you know that I am growing my hair and it has been more than 2 years. The reason why I am into knowing it is that the weather is becoming hotter and hotter here, so I need to make myself at ease with it. In addition, I need to make the style neat not to be seen by my online students. Are you good at making a 'messy man bun'? Any suggestions on what bun to use for men? Image Credit: coolmenshair.com

@Luis11 I am also doing this before having my classes online. I do the neat one when going out of the house. Thanks for sharing it. I think this is called 'high messy man bun.' right?

Did you use a comb and gel? I think you need gel for the bun to stay in place right?

The one in the picture looks cool and seems easy and quick to do.And is definitely a good option for hot weather. There must be online video tutorials to help you and with little practice you will be an expert.

This looks very easy to do... why messy? Would not be better to do something neat instead of messy?

The messy style can be turned into a neat one, which I had seen on YouTube. It was quite tricky doing it though but it is worth it.

@Shavkat - There are many videos that show how to shape a man bun. When I had long hair I often tied a pony tail and tried different styles and shapes, never messy.

I may sound cruel, but I'm going to go with "a man bun never looks good on a man in any situation." lol. My co-worker had one and we of course made it a point to make fun of him at every opportunity.

Good luck, I have never attemtped a bun on my hair. My hair right now isn't long enough for that anyway.

I can understand. I just need it because I have long hair to deal with. I promised not to cut it unless the pandemic is gone totally.

My grandson has long hair and does the "man bun" in the hot weather. I never asked him how he does it but it looks good. I've gotten so used to seeing him with the bun that when he wears his hair down I forget how long it actually is.

I was also surprised how good the men who do this on YouTube, especially those with long hair than me. Some of the bun styles are quite difficult so I managed to learn the simple ones. I must say that it was a relief during this hot season in my country.

@Shavkat Even a simple bun will help keep you cooler during the hot weather. Maybe as time goes on you'll get the hang of more complicated ones

I also think so. One of the man bun styles needs at least 4 elastic ponytails to capture the actual looks of it. It is fun doing it though.

If you are a man with long hair, a messy bun is good for the summer time. I’m not sure how men do it but I know on YouTube you can find tutorials.

I checked some tutorials on YouTube. I learned some and random use the styles every day. I find it cool to see how they do it without any difficulties. As for me, I am still practicing them. In time, it will be a piece of cake.

Some of my friends could just use a chopstick or pencil to tie their hair and make a bun, but I don't know how to do that. I usually just use a hair scrunchie to tie and make a bun when my hair is long enough.

I am also wondering how they do that. That is another level to learn. If I have more time later, I will try to surf about it on YouTube.

I don't have any suggestions. My hair is long and I put it into ponytails in the summer as it is a lot cooler if you don't have a lot of hair around your neck.
