Kids Say the Darnest things

I read a post earlier about the things kids say that reminded me of a few that my children and grandchildren said when they were small. Kids can misunderstand such simple words and come up with the darnest things. Does anyone remember the song "Rolly Polly Daddy's Little Fattie"? I'm not sure that was the title but it's the first line of the song. I was singing that song to my little son one day when he started crying his eyes out. The last line of the song was " Bet He's Gonna Be A Man Someday." My sister's name is Betty to make sense of what came out of my son's mouth, and my son thought there was nobody in the world like Betty. My little son said through his tears, Mother I don't want Betty to be a man someday. I had to assure him that Betty was not going to be a man. She would always be his Betty.

That would be an easy one to get confused. A friend of ours told her son they were going to Bob Evans to eat one time. He thought she said they were going to Bob and Evas Our house. If you say evans without the ns that is pretty much how my name is pronounced.

I love when children ask you a question that you hesitate before answering….and while you pause, they answer with the most unexpected words.

He was little but who would have thought a child would take the song that way.

My son when he was a baby cried when I sang to him "rock a bye baby". You know the song, don't you?

I know the song.It doesn’t sound good to sing to a child when you think about it. It’s down right scary. When the bough breaks , the cradle will fall, down will come rock a by baby and all.

Art Linkletter made a fortune of what "Kids Say The Darndest Things"---and it was a great show!! Kids never censor themselves--adults can learn from them!

I do know the song. But I don't remember the "Betty" lyric. Oh yes, I do. See! All of that trans-gender stuff makes kids cry!

The line was, Bet he’s gonna be a man some day. My little boy thought he was saying, Betty’s gonna be a man some day. Poor little fellow cried his eyes out until he finally understood his aunt Betty wasn’t going to turn into a man.

That's funny, misheard lyrics are quite common even among adults, but Betty gonna be a man is epic.

I never heard that song before that I know of anyway. That's cute what he thought. I remember growing up when some of my siblings and I were singing the wrong words to certain songs. But back then you couldn't get the lyrics to get it right. I don't know how we figured it out unless we heard the group on stage and it was clear there? One was a song by the doors and my brother sang one part of a verse as baked bread when it was something totally different. I wish I could remember the song or something but I can't.
