It’s In the Bag

Today the grandkids came for a sewing lesson. They want to learn to make something they can sell at their market stand. After a lot of discussion we came up with a shopping bag. The bag is a good size and very strong.. It is fully washable and once they practice a little they should be able to make one in about an hour. What would you consider a fair price? We are thinking around $20. It uses more than 1 meter of fabric.

The price sounds about right and these should sell well. They do look strong and being washable is a bonus too. That's great that the grandies are learning to sew. It's such a useful skill but few of the young ones seem to bother with it nowadays.

Three of the grandkids made quilts for the Junior Quilt .Canada Challenge. I’m looking forward to hearing how they did. Here is my grandsons quilt.

@Morleyhunt Good for them. The quilt looks really nice to me. Do you know if there were a lot of entries? And I guess they were competing in age groups?

That looks like a really cool idea and I hope they sell well. $20 seems a bit steep to me, but what do I know? I am just too used to buying reusable bags at Walmart for a buck. Of course they don't have love in them.

Consider that it uses 1.20meters of cotton fabric, and locally it retails for a minimum of $10.50 per meter the cost is very reasonable.

@Morleyhunt And you are not mass producing of course. I think these will sell well.

This is a very useful skill for children. That's so nice they learn how to sew. I am wondering are you their teacher? I like the shpping bag idea as it is an environmental way for shopping. My friend ever sewed me such a bag and I've brought it even in my travels. Namely this bag really had good travels before Just a little suggestion. Your grandkids can design a folding bag and therefore they can be as small as a pocket and it is easier to be put into the handbag.

The bag is a perfect size, and such pretty material. The price seems fair, if they don't sell at that price then they can always drop it a bit. Its wonderful that they are enjoying sewing so much, you have to be a great teacher.

@Morleyhunt No, there is no comparison between store bought and homemade in my eyes, but not everyone sees things that way. The fabric used on these bags is really fabric, not something that will pull to shreds after a few washes as the store made bags that they all offer.

I think it’s a fair price. You can’t really compare it to a Dollarama bag. The quality is so much better.

This is pretty, I bought one last week, mine is starting to show the signs of times, I paid $ 10 for it, a little larger that the one in your photo.

@Morleyhunt - The one I was using is 5 years old, it is a long time that plastic bags were banned here. The very cheap ones do not last long, they are sold at $ 15 the pack of 10. I never tried those.

Many of the ones you purchase at the checkout fall apart after a few uses.

They should stand up to years of use. They are washable and very sturdy.

If it is durable and washable, $20 is a reasonable price.

The kids enjoyed making bags yesterday. I set up my embroidery machine to put their farms name on the bags.

What a cute bag and I think it's a resonable price at $20. Hope the kids do well with their sale It certainly is a nice size and a good alternative to some reusable bags I've seen.

That's a great idea and I think $20 is a reasonable price for your bag. It certainly would be a good alternative for shopping especially since a lot of states here are banning plastic bags.
