What Average Monthly Prices Are We Paying in America Today?

Ever wonder what the average amount one single person spends here in the U.S. for groceries, entertainment and etc.? * The average car insurance payment here in the United States last year was $130 per month(or $1,548 per year). * The average bill a single person pays for groceries per month is $358. * One single person(as of February 2022) spends $329 more than their take-home pay. * The average person in the U.S. pays approximately $243 for entertainment monthly. * The average monthly expenses per household in the U.S. is $5,111. * The average cost monthly for transportation is $819 This sure doesn't jive with any of my spendings. I don't drive or buy car insurance. The average that people spend for groceries monthly is a little less than what we pay monthly for three people. About right for entertainment. Our household doesn't pay anywhere near $5,000 in expenses monthly. Being poor is the pits.

We don't pay anywhere close to that amount per month. I do drive and pay car insurance but my insurance is only $64 a month on my car. We spend around $500 a month on groceries for the two of us. Our entertainment is internet based and we pay $64 a month for unlimited internet. (Anything I can't get for free online we don't use.) I do have to pay about $130 a month for my prescription meds. Rent, gas and electric is about $600 a month.

@MarieCoyle This is a 700 sq ft house and I pay $450 a month rent on it. It's two bedroom, one bath with a small living room and a small kitchen.

@DaddyEvil Well, that's little but it no doubt works fine for 2 people! I have like 1100 sq. ft, 2 bedroom, 1 and a half bath. I got lucky on the rent and getting this place when I did. If I ever, ever move again, it will have to be something super special or a really good reason. I have moved way too much in my lifetime as it is.

To just pay $600 for rent, gas and electric combined is wildly cheap right now. One of my sons pays $550 for a tiny, tiny apartment--tiny kitchen, bath, bedroom 9X10 and living room 10X10. It's super little and needs paint and not the best. No bugs. Brick building, first floor. We looked for weeks, just to find this. Average 3 BR ranch rents for about $1300-$1600 month. Unbelievable.

@yoalldudes.......I don't believe in God. I do believe in a higher being however and he helps me doesn't push me to do anything. I couldn't live that way.

I think that God has willed me to be here, so He will help me thrive. I am always on the lookout for smart ways to handle finances so I can relate.

@celticeagle indeed where I live everything is so every expensive and that’s what happens when you live in and around the metropolitan areas with the Washington DC being 45 minutes away I can tell you my husband bi weekly income doesn’t even covers food on the table we have to get assistance form the stats and have a snap card there gives us $2,000 a month for food. Plus al three kids fed free lunches at school. If we paid rent where we live it would be in the upper end of $2,000 a month if not more but thankfully we live rent free since we live in a family members house for the last 9 years. Still paying our bills is a pain hardly any extra money for savings so I have to be creative when it comes to pulling our extra cash here and there for like emergency. Right now my husband gets 2/3rds of his pay since he is out in disability till he can get back into his work.

@ShyBear88 ......At least you have some options to help. I have heard of some areas where they have no help. Horrid medical and no food help. I have heard some awful stories. The days of buying a good sized roast to feed a family of four for $3 are long gone.

We don't spent anywhere near these figures except for food. Our car insurance for TWO cars is less than $1,548.

That’s a lot of money. My car insurance is a little below that. I don’t spend more than I make (my house is paid for), although I might if I have to get a new roof. The transportation sounds high, but figuring in the payment, the insurance, the maintenance, and the ridiculous cost of gas it’s not too far off. Reading this discussion, I know know WHY I’m poor.

The average car insurance payment is the same here, but I think that the bill for grocery is surely lower than $ 358 per month per person, this is more or less what I pay for two people.

We don't pay our that much monthly for everything either. We also do go out for entertainment much but we have two vehicles we pay insurance for. And we have a business so we also pay our liability insurance, workman's comp and a bond that is the cheapest of all of them.
