Sorry I opened my mouth!

Next week is half term for the girls and we plan to be away for most of it. We were just debating whether to return on Saturday or Sunday, and I pointed out that I need to be back by Sunday evening as I have already committed to something, but it would be nice if we were here during the day because then we could all go along to the village jubilee picnic and celebration.
My partner made some sarcastic remark.
I mentioned that I remember attending a village party for the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977, and that a platinum jubilee is a historic event it would be nice to say you were part of.
Not even a once-in-a-lifetime event, since there is unlikely to be another even in the girls’ lifetimes. Prince Charles is already in his 70s and Prince William just turned 40 so unless something happens to them both and Prince George ascends to the throne as a young man it certainly won’t happen this century.
And of course perhaps the monarchy will be abolished anyway.
My partner just continued to stare at me incredulously.
Eventually he just gave me a kiss on the cheek and said ‘Yes I’m sure it’ll be very nice and the girls love a picnic’.
He obviously thinks I’m completely nuts. I’m sorry I mentioned it.

Your poor hubby. I don't like birthday parties for people I know, let alone for someone I don't.

@Fleura Yeah, I guess not... But then he'll miss spending time with you and the girls.

Sometimes we get excited about things that no one else really cares about. I do it sometimes with other things so I get both sides of it.
If you are excited about it though, you should totally say it.

@Fleura It's a thing. My husband and I go through the same thing some times and we end up going through everything we've done that one of us has picked and the other didn't really want to do. In the end, we're always glad we go, we find something to like about whatever it is we do.

@JordanLader I didn't want to get into one of those 'Well you made us go to xx' type of situations. I've never commented on the things he has taken us to.

Enjoy your time away and I hope you enjoy your jubilee picnic. I don't know if we're doing anything on our street. No-one's said anything.

@Fleura Yes, it does! We got a slip of paper through our door yesterday telling us about our Jubilee Street party. So we are having one. I'm going to try and find a dress or T-shirt with a Union Jack on or at least something red white and blue.
I hope you are well.
Have a nice day.

It does sound like quite an event. I hope it is not too crowded.

Its one of those things where you know they are rolling their eyes . . . either for real or in their minds . . . but we know . . . and they know us too well too . I say it's always neat to experience things even if you're not originally interested, you never know what can come of it!

Some day he’ll regret that decision.
It is sad when people don’t at least pretend to share our enthusiasm.
