More than just a can of soup

My husband likes clam chowder. Sometimes he will eat a whole can by himself. Our weather is cold and rainy, and it seemed like a good meal tonight. Instead of just heating up the canned chowder, I took a few more quick steps to make it a better, and nicer meal. Since I thought of this this morning, before work I put some small shrimp out to thaw. When I was ready to eat I put some butter in a pan, sauteed some fresh garlic then added some shrimp. When the shrimp was done I threw in a big handful of raw spinach, cooking until wilted. Now it was time to add the canned chowder. I heated it all together. We served it with toasted multi grain bread and real butter. Seasoned our bowls to taste with lemon pepper. That was a really good can of soup.

I also like clam chowder, it's a long time that I do not prepare one. Tonight I am making shrimps, fried shrimps, hot peppers, garlic and rice.

I love clam chowder. Usually just make it from scratch, but yours surely does sound good. Had some wonderful lobster bisque the other night at my daughters. We honestly put crab in it instead of lobster, but used the lobster bisque recipe we like. So good.

It is hard to get good sea food here in Kansas, so we mostly settle for canned.

@marlina i love the New England style, which is the most popular. For some reason I don't care for the Manhatten style. It just seems to scream for the white cream style base.

That sounds amazing. I had part of a rotisserie chicken. Yours sounds better!

Chicken is sounding really good right now, though. I have a turkey in the freezer I will thaw. I think Bob eats better when we improvise on things.

@AmbiePam He stays tired, but that is from the heart failure from the stroke. He is getting out more and is volunteering at our little local library.

We like the "New England" style, it is creamy and has potatoes in it.

That sounds SO nice. Vince has made seafood chowder a couple of times and it's always delicious.

I was thinking of making a seafood chowder the other day using the same basic concept/idea of clam chowder, but putting fish and shrimp, and maybe even imitation crab in it instead.

Soup can really be kicked up a notch. One of my favorite things to do to boring old soup (like broccoli cheddar soup) is pour it on a baked potato (or scoop the potato into the soup) for some potato magic!

At one of the jobs I had working residential care I did the soup on potato meal a lot. Sure beats a sandwich.

I've eaten the can of chowder by myself before but I've not had it for a long time as I'm watching what I eat

@GardenGerty my health has been pretty decent but I'm refraining from certain foods so my husband doesn't miss them as he's on a specific food plan right now.

Your tweeks to soup sounds scrumptious! Bon appetit! It's warm locally. Bought my favorite Dave's Hawaiian Gourmet Ice cream Coconut Macadamia nut to cool off with.

That does sound good, although I never really ever have it from a can. I always make it from scratch. I guess that way I can have more clams in it too.
