Visiting Dad's gravesite

Tomorrow will be thirty days since we buried my father. We can finally visit the gravesite. We could've visited on the seventh day after the burial but could not because we were sick. Hubby is working and can't drive us to the cemetery but my mom's friend said he will give us a ride. He will pick her up first and then come get me. It's weird that the cemetery is right by my house, yet to enter it I have to go all the way to the other side. There is no entrance on my end. My mom wants to have dinner tomorrow in the evening in honor of my dad. At first she wanted to go somewhere but not sure how that will happen since hubby works till seven and some other people might want to be there as well. Maybe it is better to do something at home and just order something from a restaurant.

I agree with you that it would be better to do something at home, you can order food from a restaurant and serve it at home.

@lovebuglena I love Moroccan cuisine, I remember you wrote of this place in the past. I think to remember they gave you something free, but mentioned in the bill. I agree that they should hire a waiter.

@LadyDuck Yes. That is the place. You have a very good memory. This time I asked for four lemonades but they brought only one. I hope the bill was only for one of them. I could not check as my mom's friend paid the bill. He didn't even check it. He just gave the owner his card and that's it. A person shouldn't do that because if they screwed up a person ends up overpaying. On the plus side, each of us got a bowl of soup on the house. And hubby got a dessert, which he didn't even order. Owner thought he did. We told her we didn't order it, so she said it is on the house as well.

We ended up going to a Moroccan restaurant for dinner. Mom really wanted to go there. It was just hubby and I, my mom, and a couple (her friends). My mom and the couple loved the place and want to go back there. The couple didn't even know it existed. We were in this place twice before and knew it would be delicious, though service can be improved. No waiters. The owner is both the waiter and the Moroccan cuisine chef. Her husband (also owner) helps out he is not really a waiter. I think they need to hire a waiter.

@lovebuglena I guess tradition says something about placing it within a year, but the bigger, heavier ones need to placed after a few months when the ground settles. Interesting your dad did not want a headstone - was it because of a certain belief?

Now we have to get him a headstone. Though you gotta wait a year before placing it. And we have to finally get a headstone for my grandpa (his dad). For some unknown reason my dad didn't want to get him one, not even at my mom's insistence. Grandpa has been gone since Feb. 2016 and still no headstone.

@much2say My dad did not want to do a headstone for my grandpa (his dad). I have no idea why.

Thank you. We went to a Moroccan restaurant not far from us. The only Moroccan place in our borough. Mom really wanted to go there. It was just five people. My mom, hubby and I, and friends of my mom (husband and wife). We went there for 5:30 pm so the restaurant was empty. We sat outside, which was nice. However, mosquitos were flying around and some got me. It was a really nice time there. Food was delicious and my mom and her friends loved it. We were there before so we knew it was great. They do need hire a waiter. A person can't be both a waiter and a chef, which is what the owner is.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your father. I’m glad his grave is close by so you can visit. My parents graves are about 4 hours away from where I live, so I don’t get to stop by as much as I’d like.

@lovebuglena You buy the space, so you can put anyone in it you want.

@moffittjc I did not know this. Though in some places you can sell your plot to someone else. I am not sure if to a person or if the cemetery buys it back from you and then resells it.

When my dad passed away and we were buying him a plot, getting a plot for my mom did not enter my mind. Or hers for that matter. Now I regret it. I bet if we went to get her a plot now (if she would even want that) there won't be a spot next to my dad's. Or maybe even near him. It seemed like that area got more filled since we buried him.

Sorry to know about your father's loss. That' would be better if you order food from the restaurant and it becomes very hectic if you prepare it at home.

Me too. Definitely want to go there. And perhaps time to think about the headstone for him and for my grandpa. When my dad was alive for some reason he did not want to do the headstone for my grandpa (his dad), even when my mom kept urging him to do it. My grandpa passed away in 2016 and still doesn't have one. Now we can finally get it done.

It would be an emotional day visiting your Dad's resting place..it will bring back all mixed feelings . A quiet dinner at home sounds perfect in honour of your Dad. May his soul rest in peace.
