Dump The Pump

@Kandae11 (57233)
June 17, 2022 10:10am CST
Today June 17 in the United States, it is National Dump the Pump Day , a day in which people are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take public transportation. With the price of gas so high, this effort could no doubt help commuters to save some money , and also limit wear and tear on their vehicles. One can also benefit from getting some good exercise if one decides to ride a bicycle to work , or even walk or jog if the workplace is not too far away. What do you think? Are you up to dumping the pump today? By the way, today June 17 is my son's birthday. Happy birthday Dean Pixabay image

Happy Birthday to Dean. I’m home for the day. It’s too hot to go out.

@Kandae11 Now, we’re in the middle of a thunderstorm. Maybe it will cool the heat down.

No public transportation here and it is 88F (31C) now (11:20 am) heading for a high of 95F (35C) for the day. There is a heat advisory in effect here of 105F (40.5C) until 8 pm. You won't find anyone walking/biking if they have any brains in their head today.

@Kandae11 No buses or taxis. Either people own cars or they get family or friends to drive them around.

@DaddyEvil Wow! If that was the case here only half of the working population would be able to get to work. We have government buses, private buses, taxis, including Uber, and they have reactivated the train system in one area.

Wow! How does anyone manage in that kind of heat?. So everyone in your town own cars? No buses or taxis around ?

Sorry I missed this post yesterday, belated Happy Birthday to your son. We go grocery shopping once a week and it is on Friday, so yesterday we used the car to drive 3 miles.

@Kandae11 - The fresh goods are delivered on Thursday here, but that is a crowded day in the stores, so I go on Friday.

Happy birthday to your son . My birthday is Monday, but I celebrate all month I haven’t been in a car today, let alone a bike. All I’ve done was supervise workers.

This idea of using public transportation is also ecologically more viable. The hard part is in places where traffic is chaotic and public transportation is a big problem. In Brazil we have problems in traffic and in the quality of transportation. It is not difficult to see overcrowded subways and buses. I really like environmentally friendly transportation, such as bicycles. In Brazil we still have few bicycle paths. I expect this rate to increase a lot in the coming years.

Crowded public transportation won't be a good alternative. I like the idea of the bicycles - good exercise for the entire body.

I did not know today was DtP day. By lucky coincidence, both K and I are working from home today. Full disclosure: since it is school summer break, I work from home every day trying to get my next novel ready for my editor.

Every day there is at least 6 or 7 National or International days for something. National dump the pump day was started by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in June 2006.Thank you for the birthday wishes. Ishall relay them to him.

Happy birthday to your son. More and more of our roads now have bike lanes on them which makes it much safer for those choosing to ride bikes. It's a good idea.

I'll pick a different day as it's pouring rain here. Or if it clears up later, I'll cycle to recycling and post office. Only errands within 18 km.

Not me. No way. I'll spend for the gas. Bus riders are some rather "interesting" people. Not interested in being in their company personally.
