Special lunch preparation... vegetarian non veg.

Good morning from this side of the planet . It's 11:36 AM here as I write this post. It's been cloudy since morning after a night of light showers. . I hope to get some sunshine today as I want to wash and dry my bedroom bedsheets and two thick towels. Back from work. I had work from 8_11 and now I just have some work on my laptop that can be done from home. Husband left at 4 AM for airport and so I did wake up too early. Did a lot of chores before leaving for work. I will catch some sleep later in the afternoon if I feel like. Time to make lunch and it's special soya chaap curry. You can see them in the picture here. They are made from soya flour and are protein rich. It's chewy and feels like chunks of boneless chicken in the curry. We make the curry similar to that of chicken. My daughters call it vegetarian chicken . Well, it's a great dish for a vegetarian like me or someone who is planning to cut down on meat and still want to have the feeling of chicken. My husband is not a big fan of it. So, I decided to make it when he is not here for lunch. We don't get fresh soya chaaps here in Bangalore. We do get frozen one but they are too costly and nowhere close to the good taste. I get them whenever I visit mom and brother in Delhi. And they always send it to us whenever my husband has a transition flight from Delhi or if someone is coming to Bangalore. The fresh ones stay good for a week to ten days if kept well in freeze. So, I am going to make this half today and rest on Sunday. It's enough for both lunch and dinner for us. And that would save me from cooking in the evening Now, will mylot for a while before I go to the kitchen. We had a heavy breakfast and we can wait till 1:30 to have our lunch. Till then I can mylot Plan to read new posts for now. I will answer the notifications later. Hope all is well in your mylot corner. Take care

What a busy but great day for you over there. I never had soya chaaps but it looks like tofu to me. Is that similar to tofu?

It looks like tofu in the picture but is very different in taste. It just tastes like boneless chicken.

@m_audrey6788 It's not very common even here in South India. It's mostly used by people in Delhi and Punjab state.

The look is deceptive. Many mistake it for boneless chicken. My mom is a strict vegetarian and she makes sure to check few times if she spots soya chaaps in any dishes

I’m not a meat eater either. The dish you say you’re preparin, isn’t it made from soy beans?

@arunima25 By choice but there are veggies I must avoid for health reasons. For instance I can’t use soya flour because it’s made of soy beans.

@RubyHawk Oh! I see. Soya is not good for some health reasons. Those with thyroid issues have to avoid it.

It's made from soya flour. Are you vegetarian for health reasons or for going green? I am a vegetarian by choice but I would eat eggs regularly and fish occasionally ( once or twice in a year).

It's not much known even in India. It has come recently in market and is consumed more in Delhi and Punjab. We don't get it here in Bangalore.

It's not tofu. It's made of soya flour. It's delicious. Yes, the day was good. I could manage to take a nap too in the afternoon.

@arunima25 I see. But also from soybeans I guess. That is nice you were refreshed for sure from the nap. Just keep them short and energizing.

@yoalldudes Yes, the soya flour comes from soyabeans. I find short naps refreshing. I don't keep them more than 40 minutes. Anything more than 40 minutes is not a nap, it's actually sleep

Yes soya chaap is like we eat non vegetarian. But I don't like chaap, my son likes it too much because I don't allow them to eat non vegetarian frequently so they eat chaap.

It does give the look and texture of the chicken. But taste is not exactly like chicken, it's similar though. Good that your children like it and they have an alternative for chicken.

Everyone I know thought it to be boneless chicken. Even I was one when I spotted it first time in a dish at my aunt's place. I asked her twice to be sure that it's vegetarian item on my plate . I can stay indoors for days and months. I never felt boredom in the lockdown here. I have enough interests and hobbies to keep me engaged. Hope you had a good day

@arunima25 Sometimes I wonder why vegetarians still want their food to taste/look like meat. I guess it is the texture they miss most.

@JudyEv Yes, maybe. I don't long for meat at all. I am happy with veggies and fruits. I love them. But meat lovers in my family need some alternative for meat. . You are right that they miss the texture.

@Beestring I have not. I love vegetarian food and I am vegetarian by choice. I can live on plant based diet for my whole life. I don't long for meat I have heard mixed reviews about these plant based meats. Real meat lovers don't find them good. Well, I have no personal experience with that. I read few mylot posts talking about the same.
