First 2022 Butterfly Visit To Dustin's Garden

Was out watering the garden yesterday evening and noticed a large black swallowtail butterfly fluttering around the blooms. Took out my iPhone to snap some photos. Was happy to get a few good ones. The butterflies really enjoy these butterfly bushes. The white one and purple (called Black Knight) are starting to bloom now. Exciting time in the garden. I saw other critters and hope to get photos of them as well. Makes me very happy to see the butterflies starting to arrive in the garden. Photo is mine.

Butterfly bushes, even without one landed on its blooms, are so strikingly beautiful. They remind me of a lilac bloom, which I love. Lilac bushes grow so large in comparison, but the blooms are similar.

@CarolDM Yes, that is a drawback to a lilac shrub, their beautiful blooms are so short lived. We had 2 large shrubs when we moved into our old home, but our son was only 7 at the time, and those shrubs used to attract the bees. We had them removed out of a sense of fear for him getting stung.

I just love seeing them land and gracefully flutter around the garden. The lilac bush is in the back of the photo. The blooms are already gone for the year.

@Juliaacv I often wonder why the blooms only last a short while. My rose of sharon and the golden privet also attract bees. But they pass out with all of the pollen inside the blooms.

How beautiful! I’m sure they would have been in the garden sooner but who wants to flutter around in this hot weather? Butterflies aren’t dumb.

Very nice! I've been watching the flowers in my yard and have only seen bees around them so far. (I've got oxalis and several types of wild flowers in and around the yard.)
