Not A Fan Of Fireworks

United States

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I'm so happy the 4th of July holiday weekend is OVER. It's probably one of the holidays that ranks thumbs down on my favorites. The fireworks drive my dogs crazy. They look to hide, shake and have so much anxiety that I'm at a loss as what to do. Thundershirts don't work and I feel so bad for them Three nights of booming fireworks and we managed to survive. Anyway, life is back to normal today. Yay! My daughter is having a great time on her cruise to Bermuda. She didn't have any cell phone service while at sea (too expensive) and has been docked in Bermuda yesterday and today so we've been able to text. I can't wait to hear all about her trip when she gets home on Thursday. I'm kind of getting used to being alone but I don't think I'd want to live alone all the time. Even though I have plenty to keep me busy it is lonely. Did you do anything fun over the weekend? or yesterday or today

I hated the private fireworks also, the animals were scared and I hated those idiots who had to continue through the night to make noise... thanks God they have been banned here.

@kobesbuddy That mother is not a good example for her kids, they will grow up arrogant and selfish.

@LadyDuck we have an ordinance here that fireworks can only be between 4pm and 10pm. I think they should be banned and people should be fined if they shoot them off. It was horrible here all weekend

It was mostly quiet here all weekend. Bunny doberman is staying close to me right now because we have had storms this morning.

Even as a child, the fireworks weren't something I cared about seeing. The noise, confusion, smoke everywhere, crowds wandering about, an occasion that I didn't enjoy.

I wonder why dogs are so very scared of fireworks? If it is the suddenness and the kind of noise that triggers their reaction.

My dogs are bothered by fireworks and mainly I think it's because it's so loud and a huge boom that scares them. Here they set off the fireworks one right after the other and it's crazy. It basically sounds like a war zone

Happy Tuesday! Poor dogs.. They must be scared by loud noises of the fireworks. It's good to know that your life is back to normal.

I am not wild about fireworks, but I am thankful for the freedom to use them. Thankfully none were too close. The cats basically ignore them.

I love a nice public fireworks display. Those held out in a rural area, or over a lake, where it is safe and doesn't pose such an immediate danger to people, pets and potential housefires. The ones that people buy to let off themselves pose threats to all of those. Our laws are strict up here, I haven't heard any fireworks surrounding the holiday. We went away for the weekend, it was a fun and relaxing time. The only downfall was that it was really crowded because it was a long weekend.

It can be very quiet when there is only yourself in the house. Even with the dogs.

I feel so bad for your dogs. We had a dog that used to claw us all up trying to get into our laps during a thunderstorm or fireworks. I couldn't live alone. I'm not a "me time" kinda gal! No, we had a very quiet (except for the window-rattling fireworks) and uneventful weekend. Have a good week!

Our dogs do the same thing. I had 2 dogs shaking like there's no tomorrow all huddled on.my lap. I don't mind being alone for a few days but I definitely wouldn't want to be alone all the time.

Just 2 more days, then until your daughter back with you. Nice. On tv, dogs have heightened hearing, so it's bad for them any sort of loud noises. Sorry, don't know any remedy for you & your fur babies. Hope you find solutions.

You know where I was. Got home just in time for the noise but wasn’t too bad this year.

Fireworks are supposed to be illegal here . . . but well, as usual, the memo was ignored. There were A LOT of the bigger and noisier fireworks in the area . . . I highly doubt anything was done about them . . . it went on well into the night .

I am not really a fan of fireworks too. I may watch it if I know there will be one. But if sudden, sometimes I will get upset.

I get so irritated close to the 4th of July--people start blowing off fireworks here like 2 weeks before. They aren't legal here, but they go places and get them, anyway. Dogs going crazy, people can't rest because the fireworks are going on until 2, 3, 4 AM at times. I heard the last big boom this morning at 4:45AM. I think I fell asleep from exhaustion. I had the central air on, a box fan, and the TV. Trying to block out the booms, but it didn't work. Saturday, I took my son to a cookout we were invited to. It was in a big campground, and they had a truck show, he likes anything with a motor so he did enjoy it. We didn't stay long so that he wouldn't get too tired, but at least we went somewhere.
