Water Heater Ordeal

As I told you in my last post, the water heater in our house went out. That has been the project of the day today: getting the old one out of the house. As I write this post, we are taking a break. We have the old water heater out of the laundry room and it is sitting close to the kitchen door waiting to be taken down the hall and out the door. This has been an ordeal that has taken longer than expected. You know how that goes! It seems like no matter what the chore or project is, it takes longer than you expect it too. Right now we are taking a break and resting for a few minutes. We still have to make the trip to Home Depot to pick up the new one. They had 18 in stock last night so we didn't run to get it before we got this one out of the house. Right now there is no hot water to the house, so no running the dishwasher and no warm bath. So we have to get this done this evening! That is the extent of our day so far. I still have to add some inventory to boutique's software so I can add some things to stock tomorrow when I work the afternoon shift. I hope everyone is having a good day! Anyone else doing a cruddy chore like we are doing today? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

No... we had a non-satisfying visit to our doctor's office this morning, a trip to the pharmacy and a trip to the Post Office, but that was the extent of our outdoor activities. It was 100F again today. I'm glad we got done before noon.

Sorry your doctor appointment didn't go well. I hate to see temps in August if they are worse than this month! I'm still good with it all though, much better than freezing in the winter!

@kareng Thanks. I can always put on more clothes in the winter but I can only take off so many before being arrested. I'll take a cold winter over a hot summer any time!

@Marty1 Well, it's the truth! We were all so ready to quit winter this year that we didn't think what the climate change may have in store for us this summer! Do you remember if your doctor's have done a blood test on you to check for thyroid problems? Blood thinners should have only affected you while you were taking them. They don't have a lasting effect on someone who isn't taking them anymore. I hope you have a great day, too.

A cruddy appointment at the dentist's but only for a scale and clean so I won't complain. I know about chores taking longer than you bargain on. It's a given really. It seems nothing goes smoothly with these sorts of tasks.

Right! Wrong fitting size was handed over by clerk at store and hubby didn't notice until we got home. So tomorrow he either goes to next town over (closest) or back to store where purchased which is an hour drive one way. It never fails!

About 7 years ago, I was leasing a house and the water heater went out and the owners called someone to bring out a new one, but the company wouldn't install it for it needed some kind of special base, and the owners didn't want to pay for it. So even though we left there as sooon as possible, we still went a couple of months without hot water, and it was terrible. This was a nice house in a nice area, so I was shocked this happened. I hope you get yours in soon.

@misunderstood_zombie I don't think it is against the law but it should be common sense to install one!

Was that the pan that sits underneath the water heater to catch water if it leaks? There was not one under ours (another boo-boo from the previous installation) and why we had a mess on our hands. I don't blame you for getting out of there. That is uncalled for. It is all considered property upkeep!

@kareng I'm not sure if that was it or not, but I guess it was against the law to install it without one. It was a lovely house but we had to go.

Such chores can be unneeded pain but then you can't avoid them or delay them. You need it to be fixed and I hope that it's done in time.

I hope so too! This has been a royal pain. My husband just said his arms are sore tonight after all the moving around and moving it out and then unloading the new one. He will be installing tomorrow. I work at the boutique so I am spared listening to any fits that may occur.

With temperatures in the high 90's and heat indexes falling in 112-120 range a cold bath is not too bad. I am sure I'd get tired of it really soon if that was all I had though!

I won't have to for another hour or so. Giving my cat medicine to help her eat. I am trying not to resort to force feeding.

It wouldn't be too bad if the old one was installed correctly and he just had to move a new one in. He has to redo all the plumbing lines to the water heater, secure the heater in the back and figure out what to do with the gas line coming up through the floor. We will also be installing the drip pan underneath the water heater which was not there previously. Pain indeed!!

My parents had water heater trouble. This company took advantage of them.

That is a shame. The handyman sure took advantage of the lady who owned this house before us. He painted the house (exterior) when she put it up for sale. One year after we had purchased, the paint starts peeling off. Makes me wonder if he used interior paint. PVC water lines have been found outside (yes buried but dug up when leak detected) with connecting pieces not being glued together or any fitting put around it. Water line goes from my bathtub and shower to the opposite end of the house to water heater and then back out reversed to drain instead of directly to drain which is on the same side of the house as master bathroom. There are plenty other things we have found too.

I wish you the best in getting your new water heater being able to work soon since I know how it feels after a winter storm hit the Lake Charles in February 2021 that rupture some pipes in my city that took about a week to repair the damage. My chore this morning was to update my new address for my driver's license this morning.

Yes, finally. Finished up Tuesday night. I was thinking afternoon, but I worked at the boutique. Definitely night because the man waited for me to move some more stuff in the laundry room. It was easy to do, but I think he was tired and a good excuse to put it off!

I'm glad yours went smoothly. This one wasn't installed properly at all, including the direction it was installed. If it blew, it would have gone directly into the breaker box. So hubby will have to take out everything and relocated into proper position.
