Another house-sitting job for us

We spent a very cold night at Greenhills east of Perth, Western Australia, where we were taking photos at an endurance ride. I could have imagined I was in England as the maximum temperature was 12C (53F which is cold for us, especially as a daytime temperature) and there was a stiff breeze much of the time. Luckily, we were able to hook up to power at the little hall and run the heater so we were much better off than those who were sleeping in their floats (horse trailers). We went to White Gum Farm on Friday night to have dinner with three other couples. We happened to mention that we’ll be house-sitting in September and now, in two weeks’ time, we have another two weeks house-sitting at Grass Valley. Even the name sounds lovely, doesn't it? This time, there will be three horses, one dog and a cockatoo to look after. I will need to make photographic records of our times away. Who knows where we might go? The photos are mine from Greenhills - another lovely name for a town.

They are both pretty areas with lots of green, rolling hills.

Wonderful-looking horses. House sitting with animals sounds like an ideal job for someone like me since I love all animals only now I have two kittens so that leaves me out of such a job, I hope you enjoy yourself,

Thanks. I think it will be very enjoyable. There won't be a whole lot to do, not much more than there is here really but we'll be out in the countryside.

As we've got older, we like our comforts more and more. So yes, it was good to have heating.

The child's mother was out riding her horse and the grandmother was baby-sitting. I don't know more than that really.

@LindaOHio We met the cockatoo today. The dog is Dixie and the cockatoo is called Jim. They are both very friendly.

It's just amazing how they came about. And if they have friends that need help, perhaps they'll mention us.

I think so. We'll also be away from crowds so a bit safer hopefully as regards covid.

The maximum temperature of 12°C is cold for us. We have that much temperature in the winters.

I love the black horse on the bottom right. Greenhills made me think of Green Gables. I hope to find that series on one of the streaming video services one day.

I remember when it was on PBS, I got to watch some of the episodes but I want to see all of them. The one I want to see stars Megan Follows as Ann.

I'm hoping it might be the first of a few such jobs. Many of these come up through word-of-mouth. We'd be away from people and covid too.

Beautiful pictures. I especially like the one in the lower left corner. That owner didn't want his little horsie to get away from him. I hope you enjoy the house sitting jobs. I've never done something like that. (Pretty took a couple of jobs like that when she was in college and enjoyed herself.)

@judyev I’d love a really cold day. This 20 degree heat is killing me. This house sitting thing sounds promising - always something new.

But, 20°C isn't really all that hot. It was 27°C here and I found it quite pleasant. Of course, I was in the shade of a big old tree...

12C during the day is much too cold for us. Too cold to enjoy anyway. And of course a stiff breeze didn't help.

@JudyEv I'd say, it has the ups and downs though. But yeah, to refer the post, indeed it is; pandemic makes everything hard. Indeed, nowadays when the cases are slowly decrease, but the ignorant humans out there don't make it easy either

at is much more then just house sitting, you will both be nice and busy looking after all of the beloved pets. I know that you will enjoy yourselves, and if its cold I am sure that you will be warm and toasty in their home.

Thanks and yes, you're right but the work will be quite minimal. I hope I don't end up thinking 'I must be careful what I wish for' but I can't see too many disadvantages unless an animal gets sick.
