There are some 19 different reasons why some persons suffer from hair loss , but there is one particular reason that l found a bit disturbing.
The other day l was in the waiting room of the doctor's and l saw someone l knew but had not seen for sometime.
She told me she was there to hopefully get her medication changed because it was making her hair fall out. She said that the medication was Atenolol.
So as soon as l got home l did some research and found that medications can cause hair loss.
Some listed were : Beta Blockers - specifically - Tenormin ( Atenolol)
Then you have NASAIDs ( nonsterodial anti - inflammatory drugs)
Some drugs used to treat rheumatic conditions and some skin conditions.
Drugs used to treat Bipolar disorder . Also some blood thinners.
I also found that some prescription drugs actually contribute to numerical memory loss and even Dementia! . Those mentioned were anti- depressants, anti - convulsants and anti- anxiety.
All medications have some side effects - some mild, some serious. Have you noticed any ill effects from your prescription medications?
What if you begin to lose your hair or memory?

Yes I have. There is one I take for my one condition and it causes my body to slow down in all respects. So I have to counter that with my own natural remedies.

@Kandae11 Yes if I ask them to change it, they may give me something that will not work and I will not be able to get the old medication back I fear. That is the only issue there.

@RebeccasFarm It is like as they say : " being between a rock and a hard place". You need the medication to help with a certain condition , but there are serious side effects and you have to decide which you would prefer - a tough decision.

Depression and anxiety also affect hair loss. There is an acquaintance who was losing a lot of hair after her husband passed away. Her son was very worried with fear of cancer because of the amount she was losing. After a medical evaluation, they found that it was a kind of very strong anxiety that caused sadness.

I am not taking any medications but I have friends who take a lot of things and I have noticed that over time they seem to forget things that have happened in the past. But as far as hair loss I have not clue although Hank is more or less bald.

I take a blood pressure pill but I don't think that its atenolol.
I would request another medication if I were on something that gave me a side effect of hair loss.
I take a thyroid pill that makes me super sensitive to the sun and I can burn in just a few minutes.
I have to be very very careful.

I am grateful that I don't need to take any prescription medications on a regular basis. A few years ago, I suddenly had some hair loss and my scalp was very itchy. I went to see my doctor. He said my scalp had inflammation.

That is scary about Nsaids. I have been losing hair, but I thought it was hormonal. My hair has always been very thick, so I can spare some strands..

I started to worry after reading your post. I take clonazepam and olanzapine regularly but don't feel any side effects

This is interesting to know.
I am not taking any medications but have thinning hair. But I guess it's the genes in the family.

When I tried several meds for migraines, the side effects were worse than the headaches. I'm so thankful the Botox injections help. Biotin supplements often help with hair loss. It's probably a more common side effect with meds than people realize.

I take anti-anxiety but I don't think I'm losing my memory, or maybe I am and just don't know it.

You are right, there are side effects from everything. However, for some people the benefits out weigh the negative side effects. The one prescription I take does not seem to have any negative side effects, but I still wish that I could manage without it. I do not take very many over the counter meds like NSAIDs.and do not seem to have much hair loss. I think we all know we will be healthier over all if we eat better and exercise, though.
