Looking forward to Wednesday

The photo is of some eucalypts out near Fraser Range in Western Australia. It has nothing to do with the discussion. On Wednesday, I’m going to the house of a good friend just a few doors up. They are the ones who introduced us to the village. Two other friends will be there and we’re going to do cryptic crosswords for a while then play Canasta 5. The menfolk will have a game of pool/snooker in the clubroom and we’ll all get together for a meal in the evening. I know there are a great many variations of canasta but one friend has learnt this version at day classes and what is even better, she has written rules which I’ve copied out for everyone. I played this version with much the same group a while back and it wasn’t hard to learn although I hadn’t played any canasta for quite some years. It will be a fun afternoon, I’m sure.

@CookieMonster46 There is some strategy involved but not enough to make it too hard.

@JudyEv Is it raining more than expected? India jumped to 4th position in the overall CWG Games medal tally with 56 medals +, leaving New Zealand behind! A great show so far!

@JudyEv Well, Indian Women's cricket team lost to Aussies in the finals. And so did Men's Hockey team. Well better luck next time! Overall good for Indian sports with some medals in new areas, especially like Triple Jump event.

It's an interesting game but it takes a few hands till you really get into the swing of it.

@porwest It still surprises me that we can walk down the middle of the road as there is very rarely any traffic.

I played Canasta years ago but do not remember which version it was. I will search for it now that you spoke about it.

@JudyEv My earlier version was Canasta from K. I cannot trace it in my folder and I tried to download it but it is not free. Goodbye Canasta

There seems a relatively new version and possibly a bit simplified.

There is a little bit of skill and strategy to it which makes more interesting than some of the simpler games.

@judyev Happy canasta. We don’t often meet up with friends but last Thursday did so in the house of one of the group. One lady is vegan so she ate at home and arrived once we had finished eating. She gets upset at the smell of meat and we never say barbecue in her presence.

It takes all sorts they say and for sure there are all sorts in the world. I lose patience with some of the more outlandish views but to each his own.

It is easy to make friends here really. You just have to keep saying 'hello' to those you meet and say how lovely their dog is!!
