Do You Buy Souvenirs When You Travel?

My nephew's wife returned from a business trip to Japan. She bought me a handmade Japanese doll. It is lovely.
When I traveled, I bought souvenirs for myself, my brother's family, and close friends. They were momentos of my visit and I wanted the people around me to know that I thought of them while I was off in paradise. I didn't buy refrigerator magnets or keyholders because my brother's family and friends were not collecting them. I bought local handicrafts, T-shirts with designs specific to that place. I also bought local snacks which I found delicious. Do you buy souvenirs when you travel? What kind of things do you usually buy?

I have travelled quite a bit and bought things rather than souvenirs Souvenirs only if I got them free such as keychains and stuff. But most what I bought in every country I visited were chocolates.

When my daughter and I traveled, I bought postcards that showed scenes from the places we visited or stayed. I've got a shoebox full of postcards from all over the US. Depending on what was being sold, sometimes I bought my mom some handcrafted item she could put on display in her house.

@Beestring We did... From north to south, east to west coasts. (We live almost in the center of the contiguous United States.)

I love traveling but I haven't traveled in the past two years due to Covid. Have you traveled to other countries in the past year?

Yes, I'd like to buy something different such as an art piece.

I prefer to not buy souvenirs. I prefer to walk along the shore and pick sea shells for instance, find my own for free.

It is a reminder for travelers to have something from that country. Have not been out of the country, but when I travelled locally, I bought something that might make me remember I went to the place.

I don't buy a lot of souvenirs, but I like something to remind me of the trip.

@Beestring It is the same with me. When I am in the Netherlands, I mostly buy their local cheese and their cookies.

I’m obsessed with fridge magnets and candles and soaps. So I always get those. Not just one or two I buy a bunch and hand them as gifts as well. Local snacks are always a must as well.
