Chicken and Dumplings!

So my husband fixed Chicken and Dumplings this evening for supper. The above is not my picture (I forgot to take a picture), but this picture looks very much like his. It was so delicious! We only get it about twice a year, maybe. But it is one of my favorite meals, so homey and comforting! I actually love all of my husband's cooking, but he has some dishes that really stand out to me, and this is one of them! I love chicken and dumplings, but like you, we don't make them often. They are so good, and soooo fattening, I don't need them, but...usually I make them every fall when we have the first frost. It just seems to go together, not sure why.

Yes, it does seem like a cold weather dish, but my sons begged and begged him for it, and he doesn't like to let them down, so he made it.

@gtdoss Tell your hubby he's being too nice to the kids... See if that stirs up some fun at home. I cook stuff all the time that I am not terribly fond of because Pretty asks me to make it.

@gtdoss When my kids were young and all home, it was a regular dish. We had to alternate, as 2 of the kids wanted biscuit, fluffy-type drop dumplings(my preference, too) and the other 2 preferred the thick doughy rolled out dumplings. So, we alternated. They all still love dumplings.

I like chicken and dumplings but it isn't a favorite meal so I don't make it. (I don't think I've actually eaten chicken and dumplings since I moved away from home at 18.)

I think the main reason why I like it so much is because we don't get it very often. There's a few other dishes that I love more than chicken and dumplings, but not many, LOL!

Is it creamy? It's a good recipe. I hope we do something like that here but it is not common here

Yes, my husband's chicken and dumplings are creamy. I've had some in the past that were more like soup, and I loved that as well!

It looks delicious. I've never had chicken and dumplings. I often have dumplings with pork and vegetables as fillings.

Yeah, it's just not something I think about very often. If Pretty doesn't ask for something, I don't make it. (Well, unless the food is one of my favorites, then I'll make it, usually when she makes something for herself that I'm not interested in eating. I made some rotini pasta with chicken and broccoli for myself yesterday because she decided she wanted fried quinoa, which I don't like. Pretty won't eat broccoli.)

Given that there's so many recipes on the internet now, it does seem like the comfort food we had years ago is not fixed as often as it used to be. It's probably just as well, because most of the comfort food we had was pretty unhealthy.

Why do you only it twice a year if you like that much?

Chicken and dumplings is not exactly very healthy, so my husband doesn't like to fix it all that often. Plus, he finds recipes on the internet now and tries to do more healthy foods from other countries, regions, etc.

@gtdoss I have seen recipes for the dumplings and those are easy to make, but I am sure that to make the soup it takes a little work.

I never had chicken and dumplings until I married my husband. I never had it as a child, but then I moved down South, met my husband, and I've been a big fan of it ever since!

I have rarely made chicken and dumplings, but I do like to eat it. Sometimes I will get it if it is offered at a restaurant. But usually clam chowder wins the prize if it is offered next to it.

Yummy. I love chicken and dumplings. Love it in a soup and fried as well. Eat it once a week. Delicious! No coriander tho I never could stand it.

I don't like coriander or cilantro either. Just puts a bad taste in my mouth!
