Some medical staff have no compassion

Yesterday Dale drove me to my foot doctor's office to drop off the form I need the doctor to fill out. We took out travel insurance so I hope to be reimbursed by the insurance company for the cost of the cruise that we had to cancel. Dale dropped me off at the door so I wouldn't have to walk so far with my cane. He drove around to the parking lot in the back. I went in and realized I forgot a mask and couldn't call Dale since I also forgot my cell phone at home. The two women who work at the front desk wouldn't even open the sliding window and were in such a panic because I didn't have on a mask. Although they weren't wearing masks. I tried to tell them I forgot my mask and couldn't call my husband to bring one. And all I needed to do was give them a form. They just shrugged. One said I could buy a mask for a dollar. You'd have thought I had the Bubonic plague. So, they watched me as I turned around, preparing to walk all the way to the parking lot when a lady who was waiting to see the doctor insisted I take a dollar to buy a mask. That was such a kind and thoughtful thing to do. I paid for the mask and gave the women at the desk the form. I really wanted to tell my doctor (who is really nice) what happened, but those witches have the power to schedule when or if I see the doctor. I really really wanted to tell them I have Covid and then cough on them. Of course I wouldn't, but they have no manners and certainly no compassion.

The nurses in my doctor's office keep masks available, for free, for anyone who wants one or forgot their own. We aren't required to wear masks at the doctor's office anymore but Pretty and I always wear ours, any time we're out of our house. Go online to your doctor's web site. There is always a form you can fill out to make complaints or congratulations for a job well done. Fill the form out, telling the doctor about his rude nurses. The nurses MIGHT see the completed form, but so will the doctor. Fill one out every time you have any problems seeing your doctor. I bet your doctor will be HAPPY to talk to the nurses on your behalf.

I'll consider it. I just know they have the power to decide how soon you can see the doctor.

@1creekgirl I'd bet the doctor wouldn't let them put your appointments off without a good reason. After all, you can always keep filling out those "report cards" if you think something hinky is going on.

@DaddyEvil This is kind of strange in a way. When our son was little, the old ladies who were the receptionists at his Pediatrician's office were really rude to the patients. I remember telling myself that if I ever worked there, I would be kinder to the patients. About nine years later, that building was our local Health depth and I got a job at the front registration desk, exactly where those women sat. Needless to say, I tried to be kind to our patients. I wish someone would replace the women at my foot doctor's office. Not me, though!

This has me wondering about the for profit system. I'd like to think that medical staff have a more caring attitude. Could just have been a bad day I guess. Glad you got to see the Doc, even though it was a bit of a struggle

No, it was their rule and they didn't care that I was in pain. They willingly watched me head to the door using my cane.

I don't know why they're like that. They've had an attitude ever since I've been going there. The doctor is really nice, though.

That is awful that you were treated so unkindly. I'd be tempted to cough on them too although, like you, I wouldn't.

@1creekgirl Some things are best left unsaid - and undone! Coughing over people is one of them.

They give out masks for nothing at the hospital and all the doctors' offices here. They were very rude!

Well it takes a simple respect in your part. By the way in fairness to them, they're protecting themselves since you're not wearing a facemask though they don't.

Hardly anyone wears a mask here now. I can understand their paranoia, but I will never accept their lack of compassion.

@1creekgirl Our President has recently issued an executive order that face mask is no longer required for people to wear.

You can always get online and leave a review. Or, you can tell the doctor when you see him/her.

He's the only foot doctor in the small town next to us and I really like him. I don't want to lose him as a doctor.

They should have brought a mask to you and offer it if it was so much important to wear a mask. Even nicer, one should have stepped out, took your paper and bring inside. Those are really witches.

Having to pay a dollar for a mask seems absurd and they should have some available for anyone who shows up without one.

They were not very helpful, their behaviour shows that they aren’t suitable for the job. If it’s just a form, they should have just accepted it. I would provide a feedback to the administrator of the clinic. That is unacceptable.

I'm a strong believer in you reap what you sow. One day they will be the patient and will have to deal with someone with no compassion towards them. Sorry that you had to go through all of that. I think perhaps you ought to let the doctor know what kind of people he has working for him, so that it doesn't reflect poorly on him.

I can't believe people are still acting so ridiculous about this, even at a doctor's office. I am not sure how I may have handled the situation, but I am sure it would not have been good. At least you got what you needed. I think charging for the mask is ridiculous too.

Every medical office here still requires masks, but to knowingly watch me hobble out to the parking lot for a stupid mask and one dollar was infuriating.

@1creekgirl Understandable. I don't understand why they could not simply offer you a mask—without having to pay for it of course.

I do not understand this type of behavior. They should not be in this profession if the it he best they can do. I would definitely let your doctor know about this.

Most medical establishments have masks free for patients. I would suggest that to the doctor. Where I have gone for the clinical trial isn't even requiring masks..yay, of course the people that come in there are not sick anyway.

That is no way to treat someone. Where masks are mandatory, business and offices have them free for the asking here. Everybody forgets once in a while.
