Question of the Day: What are the Most Popular Cereals?

Breakfast has become my favorite meal of the day as I've gotten older. Maybe because it's one meal that takes little preparation, provides needed morning wakeup energy, and sets my mood for the day. Anyway, one of those breakfast items which take little prep time is cereal, and a bonus is there are so many varieties to choose among. Yes, cereal is a food item I enjoy frequently. After all, it's almost impossible to mess up preparing cereal so what's not to like. My favorites are Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Rice Krispies. But which cereals are considered the most popular? Well, I found this column by "Nerdist " whose staff ranked 50 brand cereals. What would be your top 3? Provide your favorite brands and I let you know if they rank on this opinion poll. One of mine did squeak into the top twenty. From reviewing the list they definitely did not choose them based on the most nutritious. Fun cereal fact: -The cereal industry in the United States uses over 400 million kilograms of sugar per year. That's some sweet tooth! Source- Nerdist.com Photo.www.chex.com

There are so many totally off the wall cereals now. Oreo cereal? That doesn't sound like a wise start to the day. I haven't eaten cereal for breakfast in ages.

@dgobucks226 Truth I eat too much cheese. My breakfast is probably worse than eating cereal. Often hubby fries up an egg, puts that on bread and cheese and puts it into the toaster oven. We also eat fruit like blueberries.

@sallypup I understand Lenore. Some food items are hard to avoid we like them so much. I am also one who likes cheese especially on sandwiches. Well, at least you balance out that diet with some healthy fruit

I'd rather have chips and salsa, I have almost no sweet tooth until the Christmas season starts and then it depends on how sweet something is, I'm not a fan of sugar in any way shape or form. Oh, I have been known to eat rice krispies on occasion but I haven't been in the mood for that in decades.

I don’t really care for cold cereal at all. I prefer oatmeal cooked on the stove, cream of wheat the same way, and once in awhile, old fashioned corn meal mush. So many of those have so much sugar, I have to be glad I don’t really care for them.

@dgobucks226 If I eat oatmeal or hot cereal, it kind of sets me up for the day and keeps me from getting hungry when I shouldn't. Plus, I can control what I put on it. I hate the instant hot cereals though, I need the real thing.
