We probably should have said "No"

When Bob was having his cardiac procedure the other day they asked about the flu shot and we said we had not had ours this year. We had planned to when he ended up sick with C Diff. So they offered him the shot before he left. Without discussing it, he said "sure, go ahead." Personally, I felt like he was not really healthy enough for it. Sure enough. That was late Tuesday afternoon. When I got home yesterday, Bob was sick. Achy, upset stomach, tired, no fever, but not sure if he was getting sick again. Not able to eat. He is sleeping a lot today. In fact, he felt so bad we had to cancel his appointment. It was too late to cancel my substitute, so I stayed home and fussed over him a bit. Once I mentioned it, he felt it quite likely was his reaction to the shot. Do not get me wrong. I surely wanted him to get the shot, and I will get one next week. I just felt it would not have the best effect right at that time because his immune system is so stressed. When you get a vaccine you are supposed to be well rested and healthy for the best results. I wish he had said "No".

I hope he feels better quickly. I only got the flu shot three times and won't get it again. All three times I got the flu and the doctor told me I must have caught it before I got the shot. I haven't had the flu since I stopped getting the flu shot.

We have not always gotten the flu shot, and we have never gotten sick afterwards. I have been getting the shot at least twenty years, maybe longer. I remember what it felt like to have the flu, as a child, and as an adult. It felt like my bones were being pulled out of the sockets and I had the worst headaches ever. Most of my workplaces have given the shots for free. One year I was not working, did not get the shot, got sick, but not so very sick. I tested positive for flu but I think for me getting the shots has helped build my immunity.

@GardenGerty I'm sure I got the flu as a kid but don't remember it and I know I've only gotten it as an adult those three times I got the flu shot. The flu virus changes so much every year that I'm not sure you can build up an immunity to it... I'm not a doctor, though.

That is too bad they didn't think of waiting on the shot.

I do not think they really realized how sick he had been. A total of 84 days of the strongest antibiotics out there will really make you sick while making you better.

I do not take the flu shot as I always get very ill. I am waiting 6 months from my last booster shot to get the variant specific covid shot, I've had enough shots in the past couple of years.

Since we had covid at the end of August we cannot get our boosters yet. Not for about six more weeks.

This is mostly just a lot of discomfort. It is also inconvenient to have to reschedule and I probably cannot get the time off to go with him.

Ugh. Yeah. Probably bad timing and the doctors probably should have known better. I hope he feels better soon and it does not set him back too badly.

Actually it was the nurses. The only doctor he saw was the cardiologist, for less than ten minutes. He is much better this evening. It is a darned if you do, darned if you don't, because we also really do not want him to get the flu either.

Aww that is upsetting. He needs to get well and this is a little set back again. I too would have waited. It’s important to get but not unless fully healthy like you said

I imagine he will get past this fairly quickly, but it delays his other appointment by a month and I will not have time off to go with him.

I agree Vaccines can be a good thing when it is done correctly, and the person is stable enough. That being said, it's hard to say if he would've had a reaction or not. Hopefully he can recover.

Usually vaccinations do not phase him at all. I imagine he will get past this quickly, but it does interfere with our plans for me to go with him as I had taken time off today. I can only do that so much.

I've allowed the health bozos to give me a flu shot back when the Swine flu was around and got really sick and the worst part is that the cough I got cuz of it didn't go away for months, never will get another one.

I had the original swine flu in the late '70's. I was not doing flu shots when it came around again. We do get our flu shots every year. We never have had a problem with them, so that is probably did not think twice about it the other day.

Let's just say a strong reaction. He has body aches, etc. and some stomach distress. It is all probably made worse because he had to fast all day and he ate well afterwards, so his stomach had a lot to handle.

He has already had the shot so it's effect has to be born for the better. Be patient and get your shot when Bob feels well.

Exactly, before giving the vaccine the doctor must be sure that you are healthy.

I hope he’ll feel much better in a couple of days. I had my flu and covid booster today I’ve felt okay so far and neither arm is sore yet. They told me I might feel bad for a couple of days.
