We're skipping the Melbourne Cup celebrations

The first Tuesday in November is a special day in Australia as the Melbourne Cup will be run. It isn’t a national holiday but in every nook and cranny of the country, people will be gathered round a TV or radio waiting to watch/listen to the race.
Our retirement village is planning a special day in the clubhouse with drinks, nibbles, games, sweeps and other fun things. We put our names down to go but we’re going to remove them this morning as we leave for our glamping night.
There are several in the village with Covid; many have had it and we just feel we’d be better off not mixing in a room full of susceptible people. We’ve dodged it so far and we’d like to keep it that way. That’s another reason the house-sitting has been good. Mostly, we’re out in the country and not associating with too many.
The photo is mine of wildflowers which we can expect to see soon.

@JudyEv yes I know a few people who have had it more then once as well. From what I was told you can’t catch the same strain twice but you can get others. I’m hoping having it now will boost my resistance to another strain a little better plus being vaccinated of course.

I don’t blame you in the least. Covid isn’t headline news anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s gone.

@JudyEv — I still see quite a few people, especially in grocery stores, wearing masks.

@FourWalls We shopped in our old country town and there were more there wearing masks than back in the city.

I'm glad you'll be skipping the celebrations. I worry about the two of you when you go to the horse rides and you don't usually get too close to the people there, as far as we know. Putting yourselves in a position to catch Covid isn't a good idea in my opinion.
We're still avoiding catching it to the best of our ability, so far.
The photo is beautiful!

@JudyEv People in the US pretend there's not a lot of Covid here but people are still being hospitalized with it.
Just be careful, please.

That's a beautiful photo. I don't blame you for wanting to stay away from COVID-19. Sometimes the effects are long-lasting and severe. Stay healthy and enjoy your glamping.

@JudyEv A wise choice. We don't get out that much.
