Planning for a trip to Ireland

I’ve mentioned that we’re going to visit our son in Melbourne in December. We’ve also been tossing around ideas for going to Ireland next year to see our younger son. For various reasons we’re not able to stay with them so accommodation costs figure hugely in our plans.
I suggested we could perhaps look at a house-swap with someone in Ireland. The odds were perhaps against us. For starters, we don’t want to go in their winter and it would need to be within a reasonable driving distance of our son. And you’re entrusting your house, and possibly your car, to a stranger. And they’re doing the same of course.
However, things often fall into place for us so we joined a house-swap site for 12 months, took photos of our place and went through all the steps. Once we joined, we had better access to what was available and one of the first places was saw within half an hour of our son by people whose first choice as a destination was Perth! It’s early days yet but we’re emailing back and forth. Wish us luck.
Photo is Vince’s from Co. Mayo when we were there last time. The sign next to the sculpture reads ‘Donated by the Singapore Government to the people of Ireland, this bronze casting of ‘Counsellor II’ is in recognition of Mayo-born sculptor, Brother Joseph McNally’s invaluable contribution to the arts in Singapore.’

An interesting history behind the sculpture.
I wonder if there exists some House Swap arrangements between any place in Australia and India !!
That would be wonderful!
Yet would you stay for a complete year with this House Swap arrangement in Ireland?
That's quite a new area of information for me.

This is a concept worth studying and exploring and it can become popular with folks with good budgets!

I hope things work out, both for the trade and after the visit and you come home to an immaculate house and car.

Yes, the agent's role becomes interesting.
Yet this also means a component for the agent's fees as well.

@wolfgirl569 That's why the motor-home was so good. We had a bed and could get our own meals if we wanted to. House-swapping will hopefully be a cheap way to go.

Lovely photo. I wish you the very best of luck and am glad you will be able to see your son in Melbourne and hope you get to Ireland next year. I hope you have a great start to the new week. BTW Whatever happened to that duck that seemed to be lost?

The poor old duck never returned so I think perhaps he has gone for good. He was such a character. Thanks for the good luck wishes. We haven't seen either boy since before covid. Funny I still say 'boy'. It doesn't seem quite right to say 'men' but one is 50 and the other only a few years away.

Thanks. It just might work out for us as the people we're in contact with have a daughter who works in Perth.
