My sister lives in a community for older people. They range in age from 60 on up. Many of her neighbors have health problems, take lots of medicine, and some are confused. Some of them get paid help, just like I am paid to help my sister. Mostly they do their own shopping. They can buy what they please. I shop with my sister because she cannot see details of things she is shopping for. My sister always has extra cigarettes and her neighbors know this. She "loans" them when people are out. People tend to go in her house if the door is open and she has them help themselves. One time Bob went with me to McPherson. He stayed at my sister's house and I took her shopping. While we were out D------ came in for cigarettes. She takes a lot of very strong medicine and can be confused from time to time. She read a list I had started for y sister. My sister wanted a different type of lightbulb. All the list said was lightbulbs. D------ read it. She called my sister to say she had lightbulbs for her. We did not understand. Sis got the kind she wanted. When we got back D----- showed up with a 12 pack of light bulbs. It turns out her helper took her to the store a while back, and light bulbs were being promoted on sale or something. Anyway, D-------- decided to get some. She bought a whole case of lightbulbs More than she will use in many years. I think 12 boxes of 12---144 light bulbs. These were not the kind my sister wanted to try, but it was easier just to put a box of 12 in her pantry. D----- was not going to take "no" for an answer. So when I needed light bulbs on Saturday my sister Yolanda had me take them home. Score!!

I often accept things not to discuss with people, some are stubborn.

She is absolutely ditzy, but my sister assures me that most of it is strong medicine. I do not know though.

Yes, it makes D feel good that she did something for someone else.

That sounds like an old folk's high school. My Mom lived in one of those buildings. She grew quite close to some of her neighbors.

Yes, you are right. It is much like high school. People are friends, and then they are not. They swap and trade things all the time and like to gossip about one another. Lots of quirky personalities. Because I am there often I am "one of the gang". A lot of times people think my sister is my mother.

@GardenGerty I remember such days with my Mom. Precious people in her building. I'd love to have them back.

It seems that D's confusion worked out to your advantage.

She really should not have read my sister's list or even been in her house without her home. Bob did not know who could come in and who could not.

She probably could have, but did not want to. I do not understand why not.

@GardenGerty ,maybe she think all light bulbs will come in handy one day.So she prefer to save all of it.

Yes, and then my sister will quit worrying about having something she does not plan to use.

Sometimes it's easier just to accept a gift rather than try to explain why you don't want it. In this case, it worked out well for you.

It did. I did not know that would happen. I almost always have extra light bulbs stored at home, but I looked for some and only had special ones for a bathroom fixture. I thought I would have to go to Wal Mart.

If the lightbulbs cannot be returned or exchanged for other goods, you better take some to avoid wastage.

She does not have the receipt and does not want to return them.It is fun for her to go around giving them away.
