Introducing Pepper

We’ve waved goodbye to Pepper’s owners and they’re on their way to Bali for a week. We arrived yesterday afternoon and have met the three old dogs – Gracie, Pepper and Chopper. Pepper is a German short-haired pointer and is 12 years old. She is a rescue dog as is Chopper. The previous house-sitter has refused to mind Pepper saying she is too needy. She has been okay so far but it’s early days yet. They are fed once a day but the three of them have just watched us eat our toast. Nothing was said about ‘treats’ or giving them anything extra. It’s too cold to eat outside away from them but we’ve stayed firm so far and not given them any of our toast. It’s hard to ignore three pairs of big brown eyes. It’s a beautiful house and I’ll share more photos another time.

I always hate it when someone watches me eat and they aren't eating at the same time.

I think we should take bets on how long you and Vince hold out on not giving them some of your food.

Would you believe 24 hours?? We bought treats for them today and will just give them one each before we go to bed. I'm sure the owner will be okay with that.

This dog looks lovely, I know I could not refrain to give them treats. But you are right to respect the house rules.

I bought some treats today. I'm thinking we will give them one each evening before we go off to our 'apartment' where they aren't allowed. I'm sure it would be okay with the owners.

I love Pepper's markings. It is hard to eat in front of animals, especially when they look at you lovingly.

That's very true but I've bought some treats today and will just give them one each before we go to bed. I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind. She has just tried to keep things really simple for us.

Maybe it should be 'Spice' or 'Mixed Spice'. We used to tease our friend who had a Dalmation by calling her 'Stripe' - the dog, not the owner.

Giving treats should be fine as feeding just once a day I think is a bit too restricted.

Pepper pushes in at mealtimes - very gently but still very pushy. I shut her out last night so we could eat in peace.
